Just to add, some people use Avia Charge 2000 or other great products or vitamins in their waterers...in which might make the water look a little strange in a picture.
Here is a photo of the type of raised water bowl holder I use to hold my stainless steel water bowls.
Prevents litter from getting kicked into the water, keeps the chickens from stepping into the bowl, and keeps the bowl from getting tipped over.
It is made by taking the metal top part of a lampshade and bending it into 'zigzags', and screwing the center into a small stack of wood.
For chicks over a week old, I use an empty mushroom can for the water bowl. It has nice tall sides that help prevent litter from getting kicked in and keep chicks from deciding to go 'wading.' I put it on top of an unopened tuna can in the corner of the brooder. The tuna can provides a stable base plus raises the water yet a little higher above enthusiastic litter-scattering feet.
