Hi from a coerced new member

I found this site searching for chicken feeder details and attempted to download https://www.backyardchickens.com/attachments/224. I was shown a message saying that I am required to register to download.

I registered. I again tried to download the file after the verification email process and reading the must reads. Still I can't download or view this pdf file, nor does searching this site tell me how I can access it. The FAQ referenced above simply says I don't have permission because I am not in the right group - that is not helpful. Helpful would suggest how to get into the right group.

What's going on here?

I was able to download it. For some activities, you need to have a certain number of posts. I think it may be 10.
Not sure but that could be the problem.

What you say is possibly true but I don't know and can't seem to find out. This sort of information should be in the 'must read' stuff or in the FAQ. (He hastily makes a mental note to self to reread all of the introductory material just in case it really is in there ... )

I am a new member and I am also experiencing difficulties with downloading the Treadle Feeder Plans by Gallo del Cielo.

This is so helpful I've just spent a day and a half trying to figure out why I can't change anything about my profile.

I agree if there's an amount you have to post first that should be part of the FAQ's. Although a tiny bit of frustration is so, so worth the mini-bachelors of chicken science I am getting from this site.

There is no doubt that this is a very useful site and there are obviously lots of very helpful people gifting knowledge and experience.
I have been able to add to my profile without meeting any of the still unknown number of require posts to download.

I've been reading BYC since I decided to raise chickens again last fall (my family raised bantams in the 60s). I too joined to access the treadle feeder plans and I understand that many times sites require contributions in the form of posts to access certain features, but this thread is almost 6 months old. I'm generally more of a reader than a poster as I have no real expertise to share yet. You'd think someone would update the FAQ or the error msg you get when attempting the download to include instructions on exactly what one has to do to get the appropriate permissions?

I was thinking the same, some info on posts required for certain features would be fantastic for the newer members of our community. Just a note in the FAQ's or a dedicated thread to it would be ideal to give them a link to. I know actual post numbers are not known but just to let them know that the more they post the more features become available would be great.
