SOS Incubating Eggs

Congrats on a hatching well done. I am so sorry you lost their mother but now you have babies from her. Do you have your geese in a predator proof pen?
No, we never put them in a pen. They just free range all the time. There's several spare dog houses and little calf houses around. And dad built them a make shift house out of hay bails right next to the house since that's where they wanted to be. At night they just stayed on the door step. We also have a yard full of dogs that usually keep predators out of the yard. But I suppose since we had just bought two goslings at the farm store, and she was sitting on a nest full of eggs it was just too enticing for the coon. I'll have to just build them a coop this summer.

Well, your goose and you both did well. Hatch rates with goslings usually aren´t too high, even when left with the goose, so after all that happened, you still got 3 goslings, it´s quite an achievement. Well done. Did you raise the parents from goslings?
Yes we bough them last April/May from a farm store. If they weren't just always on the doorstep we would've built a coop for them sooner. But I think now with 6 geese they need a coop. I'll have to do some research and build one. It'd be real nice if I could add a small pond for them too. They would sure love that.

Took my new babies outside today to meet the two store bought goslings, that are a couple weeks older. I was a little worried the older ones wouldn't accept them, or would be too rambunctious for the new goslings. But they were very gentile with them. Things went great. The babies LOVE grass. I haven't been able to get them to eat chick starter (non medicated of course) or drink water. I've been dripping the water into their mouths. But today after they saw the older geese slurp it up and tip their heads back to drink, they started doing it too, and now even know how to rinse their beaks clean in the water. I guess monkey see monkey do goes for all types of living creatures. I can't believe how fast they grow. It seems like they have almost doubled in size since last night.

Great. I´ve never had any problems either with different age groups, but some do, apparently. Great stuff, very happy for you.
