Hey guys,

Just wondering if there's any way I could dampen the sound from falling rain on my metal coop roof? It rains a lot here and I feel bad for my babies trying to sleep with the rain pounding on the roof.

Is there something I could put up against the metal on the inside or outside that would help?

Egg cartons. No cost. Effective.

Aside from being startled for a second when a loud noise commences, chickens are surprisingly unaffected once they check to see if the noise is accompanied by a large, scary, hairy predator. Visual intrusions are far more upsetting to chickens than noise intrusions.

Do you have a picture of inside the coop?

If it is large and talk enough the birds cannot reach them maybe foam insulation board would work.
I'll get a pic tomorrow. Just came in and got cleaned up. Sorry ^^"

So, it sounds like you're not too worried about the noise bothering them.

If I did decide to attach egg cartons or foam board to the ceiling, how would I go about attaching them/it? Glue?

Honestly.....my roof is exposed metal. My hens aren't bothered by the rain or hail. We don't get storms often so I would think mine would be even more reactive.

For the foam maybe liquid nails or 2x2's depending on how yours is built.

Egg cartons? I would do liquid nails but then worry about wasp nests as we seem to have thousands this year.
