sound proofing material for noisey roosters

Has anyone tried using some kind of soundproofing/acoustical material on their coop to keep the neighbors from killing your chickens?? I have 3 very LOUD boys that love to talk around 4-7 am. Any ideas short of chicken stew, re-homing would be welcome They are my babies so I WILL come up with some solution!

:| I think you have more problems to worry about if your neighbours are likely to KILL your roosters. This is illegal. Or are you being sarcastic?

My roosters will not crow if it is still dark where they roost. Do you have a light going on in the morning when they start?

My rooster actually does crow when it is still dark, and I mean dark-dark, like 4 a.m. at this time of year. I think he's got some issues.

Is your coop insulated? Just being insulated and closed up (other than ventilation) can go a long way toward keeping the noise level manageable, IMO.

Folks keep saying that, but how will soundproofing work when you must keep ventilation open in a coop, year-round? Unless you shut the coop up tight, very unhealthy thing to do, the sound is going to get out.

yes, Im being sarcastic - no one has threatened my roosters. I live in so california so insulation is not necessary for the coop. They are silkies so they have fur coats anyway

I have a solution! Just have the logging company next door start up at dark-thirty like they have been out by our place the last few mornings. Logging equipment completely covers the sound of crowing roosters, believe me!

They seel a "foam-sponge" type material that can be glued to interior walls for sound proofing (offices/rooms/studios). You should look into those, they might help. I believe it is called Acoustic Foam.

You have not discussed what the legal options are available to protect you from neighbor retribution. Are your local laws against having roosters? Are you sound proofing bc the neighbor have complained? Are you sound proofing to help insulate too or sound proof bc they are that loud and bothering you? Another thing is have you gone to the neighbor first and asked them how they feel about your roosters and just talk and be friendly and casually ask if it bothers them if it did not come up in the conversation. Being truthful and up front at times seems the best route instead of assuming what another person feels or thinks. Offer them some eggs or when they start coming. Being friendly and honest and the work is courteous and NICE.

Your construction of the coop and the sleeper. Have you sealed all the cracks and around windows? Do you leave the sleeper open at night so the flock has access to both the sleeper and down the ladder into a free area out in the open? If so you can force them to be quieter by not allowing them as much light in the am. Your vents can be shielded without taking the air flow away. Do not allow them out of the sleeper until you get up and let them out later.

Your post doesn't go into to much detail but there are always solutions to issues by working on them a bit. Be Nice and it will work itself out.

Roosters are loud. They were created to be loud. The loudest of them dominated the gene pool for thousands of years. You cannot keep a rooster locked up in a sound proof booth 24/7. Personally, I believe that in spite of all measures taken, a neighbor bothered by a crowing rooster is going to bothered. Nature of the critter.
