Soundproof for rooster?

I kind of wonder if we get a new rooster and get him used to his box within the coop from an early age, maybe he'll just go there when they all head into the coop at night.

I hope so

you can google on soundproof rooster box and get some info.

i also put a thread on here some weeks ago to the exact same effect, and was misunderstood and shot down.

one issue is keeping the roos cool in an insulated small box on a warm muggy night.........................

and yes, in at least some cases, the roos certain keepers, did in fact go automatically into 'their little pad' at night. but alot of that depends on how one sets it all up.

i am glad to see this thread reappear, and not get attacked for no good reason right off the bat!

eta: styrene/foam board insulation is the key ingredient. it is usually 2 and not 1 in. thick. but the issue of keeping the roo from cooking remains. perhaps a small rectangular, screened vent on the side away from the sensitive area. If you have sensitive areas on all sides then it could be more of a challenge.

one guy uses a dog crate and puts the roo in his mercedes benz. no kidding! in the trunk!!! no kidding.

Hmmmm...hadn't thought about heat. It can get very hot and very humid here. Maybe the garage would be better then. We could maybe run a fan. I wonder too, how large would the box need to be to prevent over heating of 1 bird. Good thing hubby is an HVAC engineer. He had me post when he was building our coop to ask what the air exchanges per hour in a coop should be.

I could see it being important for a huge flock, but we only have about 30 or so birds on average and their coop is over sized. Love that man though ~ he puts up with the chicken obsession.

I built a noise reduction cage with three separate compartments to house my breeder pairs in and I have not heard any complaints from my neighbors yet. The cage is 96" X 30" X 34", I use 1" thick plywood on three sides and 3/8" fexiglass for the doors. For ventilation, I drill six 1" holes on the bottom half of the doors. Yes, you can still hear some noises but not at 20 + feet away, from my patio to all my neighbors' doors and windows is a little more than 20 ". If I put this cage inside my garage then there will not be any noise. A few pics of my cage to give you guys an idea of what I am talking about.

Fantastic! Thank you for sharing, my husband always appreciates specs when I say, "Can you build this please?"
What litter are you using? Sand?
Beautiful birds!!

right now my roosters are in a box inside my room... since last night... why..? because the code inspector came to my neighbor's (two houses down) to make sure he got rid of all of his chickens... bummer...

i have three OEGB roosters... they aren't that loud, but you can still hear them outside... i recently got rid of 5 other OEGB roosters because of this too... they were loud and mutts... the funny part is that my first rooster; also my pet rooster; he's the quietest one... when he tries to crow he burps, and when he does crow you can just hear the first note and a bunch of sqwak after that... his wing clapping is louder than his crow... but my show quality breeders are loud... their pens are made of 1" ply, but the front is just wire... i think i'm going to make a door that covers the front with sound board or dynamat... hopefully it will keep it down at night...

but for when my std cochin roo starts crowing, i might build him a box... sigh... gunna have to lock him up every single night... the OEGB's like crowing from 3am to 6pm...

Darkness keeps our current Roo Pasquale quiet.
Darkness did not keep our fist silky roo quiet (who would crow if we flushed the toilet or the neighbour blasted music)

So I would say it depends on teh Roo

I have to go to court over my rooster, I ask for females but you know things happen, My rooster is so beautiful, don't want to give him up but I guess I don't have a choice. He is 5 months old and he crows around 5:30, I can see people getting upset about it. He is calm all nite thou, but it doesn't count. Thought about bringing him in with his favorite lady and put him in my big closet. LOL,, but I think thats cruel. I can't seem to find anyone who wants him. I think its a shame. Hope I find someone soon. court is aug 30 2013 and she has the cops outside my door every morning, soon I'll have more tickets, ya me.Live in middletown NJ 07748 anyone interested. I need help.
