"Sounds" like a roo???

Do only roos make that 'rawr' sound, or is it a hen-thing too? Probably another stupid question . . . but what better way to learn?

Do you mean crowing? On occasion, a hen will simulate a crow, but not generally. Most of the time, the bird you hear crowing is a rooster.

Nope - definitely not a crow. Just a low growling sound. I was sitting among my birds this p.m. and noticed that most all the roos were making a 'rawr' sound off and on (between spaghetti noodles). Quite pleasant, just funny sounding. And then one-quite-puzzling WCBP started making the same sound . . . we've been trying to figure out his/her sex for weeks . . . and I thought I might be on to something. Guess I'll have to post it's pic and get help here. Thanks for your patience, again!

Roosters growl, they whine, they do all sorts of calls for danger, depending on whether it's from the air or on the ground. Not sure which sound you mean exactly when you say "rawr".

One of my hens rawrs. sounds like a low growling? I think that's the sound you mean. starts low sounding then gets higher in pitch at the end, not too much higher though.

If it's the sound I'm thinking of as a 'rawr', hens can do it too...lol
