My Rhode Island Red hen has had diarrhea for almost 4 weeks now. I have treated her twice with a moderate dosage of amproluim thinking she had coccidiosis even though her only sign was blackish/brownish runny poop and she was the only hen to have diarrhea in my flock. Now its changed to a clear color with tiny orange goop and lots of whitish/yellow puddles (like excessive urates almost, and her comb drooped overnight so I'm concerned about dehydration too). The past three days she has been hiding and I was giving her time for the amproluim to work but noticed that she has brown liquid coming from her mouth which I've learned is sour crop (no kidding..
) I've started treatment following these instructions (http://luckyhensrescuenorthwest.weebly.com/crop-help-sheet.html), but what I'm worried about is her chronic diarrhea. I haven't tried a wormer other than the use of amproluim and was going to give her diatomaceous earth today until I could buy a wormer but I read to hold off on feeding hens with sour crop for a day or so. So could her diarrhea be from intestinal worms (I have not seen any in her droppings), from some infection to do with laying eggs (she hasn't layed an egg in over three months after laying one every day since I got her and she is a rescue so I'm not sure how old she is, but read it isn't normal for a hen to completely stop laying eggs even if she is old), or could her diarrhea just be an accompaniment of sour crop? She is also the only hen in my flock to have diarrhea and sour crop. Does anyone have any similar experience with their hens and have any advice on how to treat her symptoms? Thank you in advance!
