Hello to everyone. I'm new to raising chickens and I've found a lot of great information on this site...so I decided to register and become official!
I have a sick girl and need some help deciding which treatment option is better. One of my golden comets appears to have sour crop. I noticed it was enlarged almost a week ago and I hoped that it was just the timing of when I was checking on her and that it was just full, but would empty. Now I've noticed it is not going down and she is very lethargic; however she is hungry and hasn't lost interest in food. I now realize that is b/c she could be starving! :-(
I have read to try the olive oil and massaging her crop and I will be starting that this evening as soon as my fiance is home to assist. However, I am wondering whether or not to use the ACV that has been suggested by many. I read elsewhere that ACV should not be used for sour crop b/c it only worsens the acidity. I'm not sure what to do. If the sour crop is due to an overgrowth of yeast, I could see where the ACV would help to normalize the ph. But I don't want to cause her anymore discomfort if it will irritate her crop. The site that said no to ACV said to use baking soda in with the water.
Anyone know if that is safe, or which is better to use???
Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance
Oh, I have felt her crop and it is squishy, so I don't think it is impacted. And I have separated her from the rest of the flock so she can rest, get plenty of water, and not have access to food.
