Sour crop. Help?

If you hold her body under one arm and use that hand to firmly hold her wattles she will open her beak. Then insert the gel and let her wattle(s) go and she will swallow it. She doesn't sound good.

It so stressful, i cant take another chicken dying. I know she is old (dont know how old) but she is the reason why i have chickens in the first place. My first one. I really appreciate your advice. Thank you so much. Really appreciate you!
Im so afraid that she is dying and the last moments when i should be making it very comfortable for her, im just torturing her and giving her stuff she dont want..

Also, she

Trust me I know how you feel.
But yes, it's better to do all you can to try get her better than to leave her alone for the sake of comfort and regret it later. Take a deep breath, you're doing great!

What is the active ingredient in the anti-yeast cream you have on hand? If it's miconazole, you can give that orally. I squeeze a half inch of cream onto my finger and wipe it into the side of the beak. Some hens will gladly nibble it off my finger.

If the cream you have isn't micanazole, tell us what it is and we'll see if it's okay to use.

Heyy :) maybe u can help me even more...

So i started the yeast treatment yesterday (did it twice) and did one this morning. Im not really sure how much im actually getting down her because she is really resisting..
She has not had ANYTHING to drink.. only managed to get a tiny amount in her last night with the syringe.. tried some this morning but im giving her a break, she was getting very frustrated and went to lay down again closing her eyes.
The thing is.. the crop is almost empty this morning and makes like a gargling sound sometimes.
Should i try to feed her a bit or.. should i just be trying to get as much water down as possible? If then when do i feed her
She started pooing again, cloudy yellow liquid with black/brown crumb looking things in it..

Thanks so much !!

You're starting your day just as I'm getting close to finishing mine. I'm glad you posted an update because I was going to ask how our patient is doing.

It's encouraging that her crop is less full than it was. Is she acting any more energetic? If sour crop is her only issue, she should be getting her appetite back. If she has an underlying issue that is causing the sour crop, such as cancer, she will likely be getting worse in spite of this treatment.

At this stage, as the crop is becoming less full of yeast, I usually offer high moisture content foods such as grated carrot, plain yogurt, and soft boiled egg. She probably won't eat much but she should begin to show some interest in food.

The best way to get the miconazole into her is to pry open her beak by pulling down on her wattles, and once it's open, it's then easy to hold it open while you wipe your finger with the cream off inside her beak. It's important to get at least two doses of the cream into her each day, more often if you only get a tiny bit in each time. Continue the treatment for a full seven days or the yeast will just come back.

Don't worry about her poop right now. If she is responding to the treatment, it will return to normal.

Thank you thank you so much! Hey yeah im in Australia :). She wasnt energetic before but then i gave her the meds and she really treid getting away and then walked around, then i decided to get her “pen” from the garage to outide on the driveway.. she walked around a bit, tried to clean some feathers, which she hasnt done before. She tries to run away more when i approach.. still no interest in water, but she seemed to have a look at whats on the ground, dug a bit with her beak in one spot. Then she laid down again .. got up again because theres a lot of birds around.. she seems like she wants to peck and nibble but then she stops like shes not sure.

Thank you so much for your advice! Im so glad i have someone to talk to and help, otherwise id just be Pulling my hair out

Does this hen have a flock? It would help her a lot to return to them. That will stimulate her to begin eating again, and being with her friends, if she has any, will add to her well being.

If you grate enough carrot for all the chickens, she's more likely to think it's a huge treat and eat. It's important to start her crop working again. Yogurt is very good to help restore her intestinal enzymes, and egg will give her a much needed nutritional boost.

Just took her out and as soon and i put her down she walked up to this other chicken and attacked her. She is the dominant one but that was random.
Shes attacking all of them now when they are close enough,, pecking their feathers out.. wth
She only hasnt attacked my little young banthams

Now they all ran away from her.. shes here by the pen alone..
