Hi!
Our dear Misu, a female Coturnix quail, seems to have a sour crop. This seems to have started just about yesterday evening. She has a squishy crop that did not drain overnight. She ate today, and would likely eat still, but we took all water and food away from her since about 2 PM this afternoon because that's what a website said to do. We've also been massaging her crop. She has a hoarse voice too.
What are some good things to do?
We've never had to deal with this, so I don't want to jeopardize her by trying to make her vomit... or is that only what you do for chickens?
Also, we put Misu and some others outside yesterday. They are more indoor birds, staying in the garage, so I wonder if part of the issue is because she might have eaten certain bugs (she ate a leaf bug or katydid).

Re-check her crop first thing in the morning before you give her food/water to see if it's emptied.
After you check it, then do offer her some water and a bit of feed. I wouldn't withhold food/water during waking hours, you don't want her to get dehydrated.

Do you provide grit (Crushed granite) for your Quail? I know some don't, but I would. I'd offer a little chick grit which is finely crushed granite, your Quail should be able to handle that.

I agree with you, I would not vomit her, you risk her aspirating. She's hoarse, so she may have aspirated some fluids already, hard to know. Sometimes birds can sound a bit gurgly when they have crop problems.

If her crop is not empty in the morning, I'd start with coconut oil and massage. IF the crop is really watery, then I would not massage.

Below is the treatments I use on my chickens. For Quail, I'd cut the amounts of coconut oil and miconazole/clotrimazole in 3rds. So it would be 1/3 tsp coconut oil twice a day and 1/3 inch of yeast medication twice a day if that makes sense. Though I have given those full amounts to young chickens about the size of Quail and they did fine, so don't worry a great deal if it's a little over 1/3.

She's a nice looking little hen, how old is she?
