Just an update for those following this thread. My little Naomi has had a relapse of her sour crop. She's back in the house and waiting for some copper sulfate from Peter Brown. What a guy he is. He runs First STate Veterinary Supply and I've got to say he is top notch. When we need things for our chickens, we ought to buy from him. He is so willing to help and has a real heart for birds, as we here do.

Anyway, Naomi's crop in the past had gone down when I brought her into the house. This time, it did not so I'm not certain where we are on this. I will try the instructions from Peter Brown to make sure that I've done everything possible. If that is not successful, I am going to do the crop surgery as per FabulousMandy. I do trust that something is going to work. Thanks, all, for the concern.

Her crop kept filling up and not enough food passed through her system to sustain her. I hope for better results for the rest of you who are battling those nasty crop issues. I also want to thank all of you who gave suggestions and support. I sure learned a lot and hopefully will be able to better diagnose and treat any future crop failures of my girs.

Oh Pamperedhen. I am so very sorry. I am crying right along with you. I am going to try the copper stuff right along with Ipana and hope for the best. I too am worried that I may have a bigger issue on hand with Little Miss. Oh you are in my prayers and thoughts today as you try to get thru this and just make it home. You did everything that you could do and also learned alot as you went along. Who knows maybe someday you will be able to pass this along to someone else who is having this same problem.

I have the copper sulfate now and have mixed 1/4 teaspoon to a gallon of water. I did change out her water tonight with this and I also added it to the yogurt and chicken meat baby food that she has been getting. She ate everything down. Mr. Brown says that I should see results in 3 to 4 days so we'll see. Little Miss is not fading persay but I do think that she is not processing anything down now. I have been feeding her three times a day but 4 tablespoons at a time and only soft thing no crumbles or any grain. Her crop never goes down and at anytime you hold her she vomits.

An update on Naomi for those who are following this thread. My copper sulfate had not arrived yesterday and I was getting anxious. Her crop had not gone down since Friday and she eats but I have had to make her vomit after a couple of hours because her crop is so full of liquid. Someone on the internet posted that Epsom salts at the rate of 1 tsp per 16 oz of warm water was helpful for sour crop so I mixed some of that up and by using a feeding tube, I put 45 cc into her. This was at 6 pm or so. I waited until about 9 pm to ask the little thing to hang upside down once more to empty. A small amount (compared to the other times) of liquid came out. This morning....her crop is almost flat! I am totally thrilled. I have given her some applesauce and baby food which she is happily pecking up. During the night, she pooped some, mostly watery (which I would've expected) but a couple spots had a little substance to them. I will certainly keep posting as to the success of this.
