Sour crop support needed

I had given Thyme watery food all afternoon as described in previous posts, but she was way thirsty just now. I offered a slice of soft cooked yam and she took a few pecks. She went to bed with a big slushy crop. I left her with more water, but no food. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the crop will look better in the morning.

If you're not smelling the sour/stinky breath and the crop is mostly flat and moving food, then you could start introducing some soft cooked or wet grains with the other food you've been giving. Continue ACV in the water and see how it goes. I'd still be cautious about foods that have sugar, but some applesauce and yams could be tried.

Green poo can mean bile. Usually this is VIVID green, as in neon green. Normal green poo could just mean she ate some green veg. Mine have green poo when they eat turnip greens or collards. They have weird blue poo when they eat red cabbage or beet greens!

So if my girls crop is flat tomorrow I am going to try the thin oatmeal with maybe some meet baby food mixed in with a little yogurt. She looked really good tonight when she went to bed. She ate every thing I gave her today. I did increase the amounts and fed her four times. I added a little cottage cheese to the mix the last two times. Her crop looked full but was not squishy like fluid. So we'll see if tomorrow it was processed and how flat it is. I know that some has to be getting thru as the poop increase by double!

Thanks Quillgirl for your support to pampered Hen and myself!

cnj-tx50: how is your girl doing today?

Thyme's crop was just about to overflow. We went for yet anothe "puking session". We got a lot out, but I didn't want to stress her too far and stopped with still some left in her crop. I also took her to the office (my boss will throw a fit

) to keep an eye on her and provide liquids and food on an hourly basis. Her droppings are very watery with some regular "poopy stuff". Her appetite is suppressed so far, but I will try to caox her into eating some in a little while. I'm kind of at the end of my witts here. I will continue with soft and nutritious food along with poultry vitamins and probiotics and hope for the best. If anyone has suggestions what else I could do, please let me know.

Quillgirl, thanks for your kind advice. It is much appreciated.

Update on Thyme: Her crop looked better this morning. It did not empty completely and there was still some squish left, but I was happy. She lives in a cat crate for now and comes to the office so that I can provide food and water throughout the day (yeah, I know, I’m a Crazy Chicken Lady" - my boss says so...but then he just head to tip to throuth the kitchenette where Thyme is stretching her legs to get to the bathroom

). For some reason she avoids pooping in the crate and lets go when out. That way I can get a good look at it. It seems to start out way runny and then firm up somewhat by the end of the day. She is getting way spoiled. If her flock mates knew what she is being offered, they would throw a fit! Bread, quick cooking oats, milk, protein powder, vitamins, electrolytes, probiotics, boiled egg yolk, yogurt, ground flax seed and honey nut cheerios! She eats with caution and her appetite seems to peak in the afternoon. She takes lots of fluids and nearly all of the above carb rich foods get soaked before she gets them. In fact she seems to like stuff better if I add water to it.
Now, please cross your fingers that Thyme's crop and digestive system will return back to normal and she can be re-united with her 11 flock mates. Life in the cat crate doesn't compare to digging through straw and dirt and roosting with her peers.

I know others have said this, but thanks everyone for the very useful posts and updates!
I feel more comfortable having learned about this so if it happens to my chickens I will be prepared. No one in my house drinks, really, so having wine on hand will be easy. No one is gonna touch it unless we have a sick bird!
