Hi, This original post is so similar to what my hen is going through. This is/was actually my neighbor's hen, and she's had sour crop/yeast infection for many months now. Finally, my neighbor quit trying to help her (she would feel better after Monistat for a little while, then she would start feeling poorly again). So I recently went over to give his flock water when my neighbors were out of town, and poor Dixie was gurgling and regurgitating just walking down the ramp of the coop. So I offered to bring Dixie to my house, where I could isolate her and spend time helping her. There is so much to say here, I gave her Epsom baths, Acidified Copper Sulfate, Monistat, etc., etc., and got her large squishy crop down to what felt like an impacted crop. She started pooping huge poops that were firm and looked almost as big as my cat's poops. I was so excited. Then I don't know why, but she went back to squishy huge crop and very little poop.
So I took her to the vet. She's very thin, weighs 1.6 pounds. The vet wants to do crop surgery, and then will put her on antibiotics, which I think will make the yeast infection worse. So I asked the vet to do an xray to rule out a tumor,, and the xray shows inflamed, swollen intestines. (Attached)
So I could sure use some advice and support. My neighbor thinks I am nuts for trying to save her. She is just so sweet. Thanks for any help or suggestions!
