Sour crop

I'll be praying for Bombie with you!!!

Well had to take her to a vet as I've tried everything she was getting worse and I just didn't know what to do! He checked her over and emptied the crop and her back end which was stuffed with grit! Causing a blockage. Could be her problem if she's been eating grit obsessively for ages but if its just for last few days its prob not the answer. She's got another infection in the crop so now has antibiotics and paraffin again to try to get the grit and anything else that's stuck hopefully out! Also another medicine to contract the digestive muscles to help empty any blockages. She has to go back on fri to check up and see how she's doing but if no better the vet may want to knock her out to investigate which scares me that she won't wake up! Pray it doesn't come to that. Thankfully I've finally found a chicken vet who knows his stuff and really close by. His the vet for paradise which is a local zoo so he must be good!

thank you sunflower girl xx bombie was bad this morning standing up really straight and mouth wide open and shaking!also julting from side to side!i rushed to vet he said to take her off the new contraction meds as she was having stomach cramps:(poor baby! so now praying parafin and antibiotics work. ive been instrucyed to empty the crop before each dose which i did this morning and what came out was awful! so thick and gloopy it kust kept coming and was hanging from her mouth i thought she would choke but she didnt its truly frightening to do! and the smell! im very distressed right now. please god let her make a full recovery. sfg: thank you for your prayers x hope his listeningx

sfg. sorry for late reply been really full on but bombie has been back to vets they have given more antibiotics and more parafin so not out of the woods yet but shes looking brighter and crop is much smaller now. shes eating drinking and pooping so all good signs but now we(the vet and i) can feel something in her rear end. could be an egg or pebble/stone? not sure but cant move it out as its too deep hopefully she'll manage to pass it soon as could be thr root of her ill health. am giving liquid parafin twice a day 1ml at a time to help and to help pass the excess grit.back to vet in the morning so fingers crossed for good news. xxx

well vet cant feel blockage anymore so could have been grit and shes passed it. infection seems finally under control but shes left with a huge pendulous crop that just hangs so when she eats she fills the whole crop up i guess to feel full and then she cant stand or breath well!! the vet said her weights so low that that alone could kill her! so trying to feed high calorie treats in small doses every two hours. the job now is to put weight on her but its differcult when she cant digest from a stetched crop so i had a look on google and found a company that make crop support things called birdy bras for this exact complaint so ive fasioned her a homemade version and seems to be working so far but only had it on for a few hours...... fingers crossed :)

id like to make it clear that this is a homemadeversion of a product i found online. its not perfect by a long chalk and im hoping to purchase a propper one from the us company soon. im not suggesting anyone should make their own or that it is anywhere near as good as the one availible online. it is not,its just a desperate attempt to make do! i just want to clear that up as ive had some negative feedback about having coppied someone elses design! if you would like to purchase the product its called a birdy bra by crazy k and is availible on their online site. thanks
