Sour crop

yeah i did, i thought about sand but as you say bonbies an eat anyrhing kinda gal! everything iput out there i have to think 'what would that feel like in the crop!' think i have to strip run back to bare dirt floor and coop with something she cant get down! going to go with fleece blankets for nest boxes and maybe even just cover the floor with newspapers. they arnt going to stay put i know but idk what else! pwand made a good point about lino being slippery, i dont want them slidding about in their own poop! yuk! were only half built anyway! husband back at work now and ive been told not to touch! he will get back to it as soon as he can. bombie is still bloated today thou not as big as last night so somes getting through! i dont get it, bogtown i know what your saying about the slow crop and believe your right to some degree.no doubt she dosnt work normally but when she was well for that week the crop went completely normal and flat so i know its possible again. there must be something blocking her. i was so rushed to get kids to school i disnt have time to empty her(thats something i dont want to do while rusging!) had to give tiny bit of food or she'd start eating non edibles! going to check her now maybe try an empty. ill get some pics of coop build too. x

this is the coop so far
just emptied bombie got loads out almost completely empty but can feel a mass of feathers in there! have phoned vet asked him to get a tube for me. not looking forward to it but think if i can fill crop with fluid and empty then keep repeating i may get those darn feathers out!!

pwand- any advice on using the tube? i know you said you did it before didnt you?! was it tricky? i tried to hold her and open her mouth just to have a look at where id be putting the tube but she freaked out at me trying to hold her beak open!! she is pretty cooperative for most things but that seemed to really upset her! not even sure ill manage it! im thinking about dripping it into her beak off a syringe but its going to take ages and prob be quite stressful for her and I !! i wish one of you guys lived in my street!! lol

Shell here is this. If you're going to tube her, this might be helpful.

I can't get over that Shed~! I mean coop your husband is building. lol. It looks beautiful. Lucky chickens. However, I can envision him day dreaming about tools hanging in there one day...LOL. Are you putting some windows or chicken wire then on the left side there for light? boy it sure looks great. That lumber looks beautiful.
So you are thinking partial block, keeping the crop way slow. So hopefully, Maybe like with a small leak sometimes the crack gets bigger and bigger with pressure. And then that food will maybe just push the rest through. I see what you're saying. Good thinking to wait until you have some time before emptying crop.

Would be fabulous to live down the street from you shell. We could have tea, watch chicken TV, laugh and take care of our chicken emergencies.

It really is nice to have someone close by! I have a friend who is my partner in crime over chickens who lives 1 mile down our road! We try to go out to a little sandwich shop at least once a week and wouldn't you know, we ALWAYS wind up doing CHICKIE TALK!!!

Great link on the sand sfg. I will have to give that some thought.

Shell: haven't used the tube before. If you could flush it and Empty her crop, that might get rid of the feathers. Beautiful coop :) . Don't use newspaper either, they will eat that too.

I just checked on my chickens and my hen had a partially full crop. I emptied it and its sour. It doesn't appear slimy like before, just mushed food. It's been 48 hrs since I had to do that. It's almost a week with the antifungal cream.

paper mache crop!!!

bogtown- yes i think thats what im dealing with. i hoped the food would push the feathers through but it dosnt seem thats going to happen :( picked up tube from vet, its huge! really scary! not sure i can do this!! reacon its big enough to suck up feathers thou. wont do that til morning. pray it empties and i wont have to !!

sfg- your so lucky i wish i had someone here who loved chickens like i do. im a bit odd for this area really most people when they hear i have chickens say 'good heavens why?' lol. i have one woman at my daughters dance class who has chickens but she says theyve never been ill !! lucky her and lucky chickens cos shesaid she couldnt do anything like im doing and if they get ill she'll call me!! i said im no expert but she seems to think i am! lol
