Sour crop

well what a ninny i am!! had a friend over and got her to hold bombie wrapped in a towel. got everthing ready. put the tube in no problem but couldnt feel it in the crop so paniced took it out again! phoned vet for a chat about it. he cofirmed i had it in correctly!! said the tube he gave is so wide it wouldnt fit down the trachea! said the only way id get in the wrong hole is if ihad her upside down! lol so i paniced for nothing! friend had to leave son had to be taken to school so now im alone with no one to hold her! argh! will have to wait for husband to come home tonoght to try this now! on upside crop is quite neat today not massive and full of liquid so that last vomit seemed to do some good but feathers still in there. i can feel big mass of them and till there out this problems not going away. also she didnt seem to mind the tube at all so i feel more confident for later. vet thinks sucking them out is a good idea too so at least im not totally mad it seems! lol just disapointed i didnt just go for it when i had the chance.
better luck later! i hope. shes lively.eating ect and not turned sour again so far seems this has turned into a blockage problem now.

Shell: when put the tube in, make sure you do the baking soda solution and fill the ear syringe and Give it to her and massage her crop first. Then suck out those feathers. The solution recipe I think was in my last post.

We get brave and do things some would never imagine. Keep up the strength Shell. :)

Shell: I feel your determination and you will be able to do this baking soda flush and suction of bombie. Imagine how she's going to feel after. Like a million bucks! Glad the crop is not a totally nightmare today as well. A little breathing room down there to swoosh the solution around.

Your Vet cracks me up.

Bless him for giving a tube appropriately sized.

Gosh wouldn't a road trip to London be awesome! See Big Ben, Kate and Will, and Bombie! lol. The chicken nerd I am ...I'd probably be more into helping you and your hubby with the coop and Bombie than bashing around London.

thanks guys :) i am determined now.
londons great bogtown but after seeing pic of you coop on your thread im not sure youd get far from my back garden lol its lovely! well done you! i have to rely on hubbys skills :( .
must say i have found myself a great vet and he does crack me up too!lol humour goes a long way with me :) x

pwand just checked your thread (yay!) seems the baking sodas effective! ill use that mixed in warm water. is it 1tsp? how much water did you mix with? xx(so happy for you and your girl x)

Thank you shell. First time I used a skill saw was this past March...and it scared the crap out of me. Visions of me walking around with 9 fingers or less, you know. Hubby refused to help, but then caught him bragging about it later to his fire department buddies. LOL. At a certain point though, I thought...I'm not going to let him help me now and take credit...LOL. stubborn and selfish that way.

Oh my gosh...I can't wait to check back and see how it all goes with your hubby back to help with flushing. All in control here with pwand's good experience and results. I can feel it.

Shell: here's the article for flushing the crop with the recipe of the baking soda flush.
http://www.browneggblueegg.com/Article/ImpactedCrop_OldWay.html

For the sour crop I gave my hens 1 tbsp of baking soda into one gallon or 4 litters of water for them to drink in their main water. I also added the antibiotics and vitamins to the water were we have been at this for two weeks.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes. I'm heading to bed, I'm tired, didn't sleep. Check back later. :)

thanks guys but it didnt go to well! got tube in no problem but when i slowly pushed the water down she freaked started thrashing about i had to take it out to calm her down!! then ive decided to leave her for tonight as i dont want her more stressed. up side crop feels pretty small before bed and i know shes eaten well today so im hopeful for the morning. couldnt feel as many feathers in there tonight. maybe 3 or 4. think last vomit got fair few out and maybe shes passed a few too. wouldnt it be lovely if the crop was empty in the morning!
i feel a bit of a failure :( i wanted another go but have to put her stress levels first. poor baby .

Shell: get a tinny tube to put the solution into her crop. Air could easily pass by. Your not a failure, good news is that she is eating and drinking and may pass the feathers. Is her poop ok?
