Hi all,

I think that my hen Wilma is experiencing symptoms of a sour crop, but being my first year with chickens, I could use your advice/opinions on whether I have made the right diagnosis. Let the girls out this morning and Wilma stayed tucked in the coop. When I checked on her, she had a yellow liquid coming out of her beak. I picked her up and when she tilted forward, more liquid came out. It did not have any smell at all. I kept doing this and eventually a little clump of grass came out. Seeing that we just got 24 inches of snow dumped on us, I'm assuming that this is old grass from the last time they free ranged. I've isolated her inside and gave her some water with ACV and some yogurt. When I checked in on her before I had to leave for work, she was sleeping in the corner. Am I handling this the right way or should I be doing more?

Thanks in advance!

If yoru diagnosis is correct, you may want to stop the ACV for a little bit. It only increases the acidity in her crop. You could try a little bit of baking soda in her water,

Ah, that's good to know and makes sense. My husband is running home at lunch to check on her, I'll have him swap out her water. Poor girl. Thank you for your input.
