Sour Crop

My Rosalie is currently on nystatin for this.we have her indoors and she will take egg and yoghurt for probiotics and has ccf in her water but I don't think she has the strength anymore.shes 3yrs old and had always been a small girl.still I can't give up yet.

Àm afraid not.we took her back to see Lizzie (our vet) on Friday . Rosalie didn't have any strength. She was attempting to eat dried mealworms but couldn't swallow at all.i put her out for a walk on the grass but when she tried to eat the grass she fell àgain.I spent the rest of the day holding her(she didn't move ) I still feel so awful but she was wasting away, couldn't let her suffer anymore. Am still crying now thinking about her as I write this.i miss her so much.she was our first girl and the garden doesn't seem as happy without our little red hen.

but don't know if I've don't it correctly

Hi sorry to hear your girl is poorly. Over the last six months I've had to deal with six cases of sour crop in my flock, I've been able to cure every single one by firstly tipping them up and emptying the crop and then following up with kefir milk added to their feed everyday for 2 weeks. It works like an absolute dream, in the first instance I did isolate the girls so I could keep an eye on them how much the were eating and so on but equally to protect them from the other girls, who will bully a sick bird, I hope this is of some use to you. :D Good luck with it

I've dealt with sour crop before. Especially after a good hearted person gave my chickens too much fruit. I used the yeast infection cream 2 x's a day for a few days (about a week). No fruits or other snacks. No food for 24 - 48 hours. Then only crumbles after that. It helped big time.

I have a chicken who is about 7 months old and she has Sour Crop, I have been treating her with homeopathic Nux Vomica since yesterday (which has helped) and have been emptying her crop today, but not sure if I should give the Nystatin now or wait and see if she clears it herself.
Did you or Hen have any gurgling?

How do you keep them from aspirating? And how did you do it? I have a Hen who I think has sour crop and she is making a gurgling sound when she breathes.
