Sour Crop

I didn't use the eggs for a long time, she was not laying much though but once she was back in I did use the eggs. I would figure out a smart withdrawal period...

Update Clawdene is doing very well but I ended up making her a crop bra for her pendulous crop and it has made all the difference. So glad I persisted and she is still with us. That's her on the right - front!

The
I got the Monistat (miconazole) suppositories as it was what I could get the fastest, and am also giving her Amoxicillin because she almost aspirated yesterday, or most likely did, and I was worried. I have not had to empty her crop for 24 hours, and I am trying not to do it again because lately it has been much thicker and she has been choking on it, before it was a lot of fluid and easy to do, and she was very uncomfortable without me doing it. I think her throat is sore too. She is better today and breathing better, normally now. She is not eating as much though, but I am going to persist, she is pretty picky about what she eats too, she will not eat apple sauce or yogurt for example and she is getting difficult to medicate so I am really not about to force feed her, especially liquids and am just getting the meds into her twice a day. But she is bright and alert and talking. She is eating a little though and drinking. She probably would eat soft fruits, and I might get her some today, we have some huckleberries outside and they don't have much sugar in them. Oh yes and her crop is much smaller, I am massaging it a few times a day too.
My hen has had sour crop for almost 3 weeks I have called the vet and the co-op here and nobody has ever heard of sour crop before . I have been solo-in it on my own . I have not hardly been able to sleep I've been so worried . Thank God for backyard chickens now I have hope that my hen may live . I have been doing almost the wrong things. I have been letting her eat as she always did without soaking the food . I have been emptying her tummy once a day , but my husband wanted to put her out of her misery this morning and I wouldn't let him . She may still have a chance hopefully . The other hens are picking on her now I think they know she is almost gone . Where and how do I get the Monistat ? How do I apply it ? The vets have nothing here but we do have a walmart close by and a drug store .

Have you ever de-wormed with something like Valbazen or Safeguard?

I used the safeguard and I put a teaspoon per gallon and left it in there according to directions on the bottle . All the other hens are very healthy but this hen seems to have always had problems . I brought her in the house today in the laudry room and put her in a cage and I am force feeding her liquids . She isn't doing well at all . I feel so bad for her but the other hens must have know she was sick because they have been pecking on her .

I hate to say it, but that's not a reliable way to worm.

Her problem could be from capillary worms, which require 10% Safeguard at 0.23ml per pounds of body weight orally for *5* consecutive days or Valbazen at 0.08ml per pound once and repeat in ten days. Get her nice and warm and see if she perks up.

I will and thank you so much . I just brought her into the laundry room put her in a crate with a top on it and newspaper under the crate do you think if she has worms she will give them to my two shihtzu's ?

No. Dogs get their own types of worms, chickens get their own types of worms. They are not zoonotic.
