Sour/Impacted Crop *Newbie Here*

Today it was back to balloon mode. However, I was able to make her puke up, and I think I actually got most of everything out. There was grass in it, which I know is 4 days old. So fingers crossed this is the turn around point.

Poor baby!! But congratulations to you for being a caring chicken mama and going the distance to get her well...kudos to you!! Keep us updated!

So I've been feeding her a small amount of scrambled egg this last day. (like a spoon full very small amount) But her crop was again up and quishy this morning. So I made her barf it it up (she didn't have water last night so all that must be from yesterday, should it have all gone done or could it have been just water because she drank a lot yesterday?). Poor girl, she's going to stop liking me because all I do is squish her all day. I have the save-a-chick probiotic in her water which I guess does the same as the yogurt (without the added stuff).

Do you think it would be ok to feed her more, and is there anything else besides scrambled egg that would be ok to give her at this point? I don't want to start her back on chick feed till I know she's better.

And speaking of better, should I be waiting until she has a completely empty crop? Going on days 4-5 I don't really want to withhold food and water again just to make sure it goes down :( Todays throw up was mostly watery looking, with a touch of milky. But nothing like yesterday. She is pretty much pooping water. I think its cause thats all that she's had for 3 days basically. This is tough.

I'm not sure.. I'd maybe try some yogurt? Good bacteria. Easy to digest, and full of protein. It might be easier to digest than the egg bits because of already being almost a liquid. The yogurt could help combat the yeast building up.

My roo was headed out. I'd find him unresponsive in the roost, and he wouldn't even wake up to me poking him. He hadn't had any food intake really in almost 4 days and he had a lot of mucous coming out of his beak. I tried brown sugar water to get him some energy but it didn't help. So I soaked the chicken feed for an hour until it was mush and enough for all the birds so that he'd get some, and he ate it. A few beak fulls and then again in the afternoon, but he perked up and after two days of this he is back to himself and eating like the piggy that he is. It's soft food though, and I upped the grit and have been giving them ACV in the water and am hoping for the best. I'm going to start fermented feed now though, it reportedly can help against all sorts of things including crop problems.

She's been perky this whole time. Sometimes I worry it would have gone away on its own and I'm doing more harm than good. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I started the 1st day of monistat today since nothing else was working. She seems very hungry and actually ate the monistat. She also got a hold of some straw the chicks we have flung from their brooder. I swear she must have told them to do it. So now I'm worried about her eating that and becoming impacted (saw her swollow a whole piece when I walked in to check on her, and she skwaked at me when I took piece 2 from her mouth. She is acting starved). We put chick feed back in with her and she won't eat that.

What is fermented feed?

The rooster is back to his normal piggy self and hasn't had a recurrence (knock on wood). I've seen him do the neck stretch move twice or so since, but not consistently. I bet your bird will be okay, she should be able to pass that piece of straw without too much issue since you've taken care of her crop problem (treating it, having emptied it before a few days ago). Fermented feed is when you take a tub, pour a big amt of food in it, cover it with water, and stir it. Keep doing that for abt 4 days, and it'll ferment and it has all sorts of awesome health benefits. Here's an awesome link: http://tikktok.wordpress.com/2014/04/13/fermented-feed-faq/
