SourCrop? Help!

Hello everyone I recently had a baby die and I think it was because of sourcrop. What happens to a baby when It gets sourcrop. When I found the baby dead it had thrown up a little and still had throw up in its mouth.

Any info is appreciated.

PS: You are supposed to wait until the baby's crop is ENTIRELY empty before feeding again, right?

I dont think I have heard of babies getting sourcrop. Are you handfeeding? Something I have never wanted to try unless an emergency. But I never had any luck unless the baby was three weeks old.

I always wait till it's totaly empty before feeding again, if it's not just add water to aid the process..... and at 3 weeks old I fed whole grain like peas and wheat into them...

I'v never heard of a dove or pigeon getting sour crop. What kind of baby was it? Do you have a pair of ringnecks you could use as fosters next time?

I'm very sorry for the loss of your little one. Sour crop can be treated with Nystatin is you have it or by
dissolving a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water and syringing a few cc's of the solution. Apple
Cider Vinegar can also be used. DO NOT use both baking soda and vinegar at the same time!

We're trying to change the ph of the crop and get it moving again. In extreme cases, it is necessary to
evacuate the crop by sucking out the contents with a syringe or by expressing the contents through
the mouth .. this is pretty dicey and not for beginners.

without seeing the bird my thought the bird was drown accidently feeding it or over fed to much water 3 weeks old put feed and water with it and they will learn to eat much faster because they will start picking for food when they become hungry this from experience did you feed exact because at that age the parents are feeding them whole grain i used chicken lay pellets much easier than picking grains
