Ahem......I saw people. Ghosts and such. Not scary at all but I saw a lot of transparent people. Totally weird since I do not believe in ghosts. Except the Holy Ghost, of course. But these were people I could see through and that was just the strangest thing but I knew it was from the pregnancy so did not freak out.
I did lose my sight a few weeks after I had delivered. But only for about an hour. Dr said it was low blood sugar. Uh huh. Me, low sugar. The person that eats anything sweet but I was nursing then and eating "better". Could have been. But that was creepy.

And have big Dogs--well, not as big as some peoples....

I agree on the dog...I have an awsome yard dog and one day last summer a weird guy stopped to ask about truck parts(we have a couple junkers we use for parts) and my DH was home but Boomer(dog) stuck very very close and they guy waited until my husband went in for his cigs( I DO NOT SMOKE) they guy wanted to comment on how he thought the dog was gonna bite before he got out of his truck but he bet it was all show,I told him no that he would kill for us and the guy laughed until I said "SIC" and Boomer who I have never trained but seems to always know what I want bared teeth and growled....they guy left before DH got back!! LOL GOOD DOG!!

I also agree with being carefull and not inviting trouble...but a dog helps with drop ins ...but still may be no match for a gun and you never know nowdays...I am ready to get my conceled weapons permit....

We were just talking about getting another dog for the yard. My concern is my coops are about 1/3 from the road but our house is even going to be further back. So someone could come up to the coop area and if I were in the house, I might never know. I want to get some kind of gate put on the front that you would have to buzz people in somehow. And I'm hoping to take a concealed weapons class this January. I love having people out to the farm and would hate to end that. Plus people like to pick out their chicks. Why does the world have to have so many messed up people?

A gate or just a buzzer is a good idea...a friend of ours has a post at the drive with a motion sensor that chimes when someone drives in...and the chime can be carried around so they know even if they are down at the dock!! its has a pretty good range!!

ETA: my chimes bark every time someone even slows down by our land!!

I have gates at the road and keep them closed, live back in the middle of our property but have had people climb over the fence/gates and come on up to the house. It doesn't matter if I have a Beware of Dog sign either.
A customer that I do not see very often, a doctor in Greenville, said she was riding by one day and it looked like no one lived at our place. Said she forgot my phone number so she hopped the fence and came up to the house. DH saw her coming across the yard and jumped up to go see who it was. DD and I were gone to a Guinea Pig show that day so I wasn't home.
The odd thing is that why would you just be driving by when you live down in Greenville and I am way out in the middle of nothing? And why not call the number on my egg sign at the road? It is big, yellow and easy to see! She said it looked like our house was boarded up........huh? She also thought my egg sign was a For Sale sign. It was a weird story, I tell you. And she didn't really want anything, she was just checking on the place. At that time there was a Beware of Dog sign on my gate.

But she isn't the only one. I have had numerous people climb over and come in. I am at my wits end because the No Trespassing signs do not help either.

However, since I had chickens stolen 2 years ago my neighbors have been more vigilant around me. About 2 months ago my DH came home from work and at that time he was riding with a friend that lives near us. Tony dropped him off at 2:30 in the morning and turned around and headed back down the driveway when DH noticed that he had left his stuff in his friend's truck so he went running down the driveway yelling and Tony stopped and handed DH his stuff and went on down to the road while DH came back in the house. Tony got out of the truck to lock the gates back when what does he see but some whack-a-do running down the road towards him with a gun in one hand and wearing nothing but his tightie whities. Our neighbor from across the street and down a house heard the commotion and came a running. He is a big boy, too. Big beer gut and pretty hairy. Scared Tony out of his mind and he was scared to bring DH home a few days after that. But once he explained to the guy he was just bringing DH home and the neighbor gave him the 3rd degree and was satisfied all was good.
Gotta love your neighbors even if they are a bit odd. But thank goodness he was looking out for us.

Fences don't stop some people. Neighbors with guns will though!

Remember you do not need a concealed weapons permit on your own property, just if you leave it with the gun.

But you need to know how to shoot! That's really why I'm doing it. Don't want to shoot one of the kids by accident. Or worse, one of my paint silkies!

We've been broken into twice. On Paris Mtn. We don't have a garage so they wait til the cars are gone and go around back. So now we have an alarm, 2 guns, and a dog (well, another dog eventually). the guns are for both kinds of predators: animals and people.

Our neighbors are now vigilent as well as us to report cars we see making multiple trips up and down the mountain if we know they don't live there or aren't in construction. it also helps especially when the kdis are out of school becasue they like to race up and down the mountain, so during the holidays and summer months we see our fair share of blue lights. But we are glad they patrol!

I have good aim but since I'm preggers I can't go to the range b/c of the high levels of lead. But I can shoot a can off a ledge

You don't need a permit to carry on your own property. Just saying....
