Well, the second appraisal came in. And it's over $100,000 less than the cost to build the house.

I don't know how any home builders are making it right now. This whole mortgage/appraisal situation is ridiculous. I'm so sad. Between renting this trailer and paying storage for all of our stuff, we're throwing $1000 out of the window every month. I really love my farm but it has seemed like every time we try to do something permanent out here, a door closes. So frustrating! Maybe God knows a tornado is coming that will wipe it out and doesn't want us here. If so, I wish he would tell me! Or just tell us what to do.

I know this is not a life-threatening situation and we are very grateful for all we have. I just want to be settled somewhere. Somewhere safe.

Looks like it's going to be windy again tomorrow! ARGH!!!!!!!

So sorry Susanne! I do understand, this economy stinks. The whole mortgage/bank/builder situation is what put my husband out of business. There is very little building going on in our area and the subcontractors are so desperate for work the job bids are cut throat. Most subcontractors are losing money to get jobs and the contractors are taking advantage of it and using the lowest bidder instead of being loyal to their regular subs. We just couldn't compete as we need to eat. We had the same problem here with the appraisals as there were very few property sales in our area that was comparable to ours (with acreage). They had to go about 15 miles out to find 3 properties to compare ours to and those were older sales. I'm sure something will work out, I hope it happens soon for you. I would just keep trying different banks. Surely there is someone out there that still wants to help people.

I totally understand the dust. That is why I'm not hatching right now. I am working on a new brooder room in the barn though. Hopefully next year I can hatch whenever I want and stay healthy too. The dust is really bothering my asthma and it's not worth my health as I've been doing quite well for the past few years. Yancy your birds are very sweet. I sold 5 of my babies today that were about the same size. The customers were thrilled and I was sad to see them go. Still thinking about them.

Well, life on the farm is hard. I've been moving my birds into a new coop. Hopefully a safer coop. I lost several birds last week to a fox or coyote. I've seen hawk attacks everyday this week. I found one hen dead in the nest box with her side ripped out. I'm pretty sure that was a hawk. And tonight I came home to find a coyote chasing my ducks around the front yard, 5 feet from my front porch! Of course by the time we got into the house to grab the gun and spotlight he was gone. This might be one time I wish I'd had my concealed weapon permit. I saw him coming into the yard just as I pulled up so I drove right into the front yard with the headlights on him. No doubt it was a coyote. Thank goodness I had left the cats inside because it was so cold. And what were my pyr girls doing? Sitting in their run watching without making a sound. At least I didn't hear them bark. And they are on my bad list because they nearly killed a leghorn hen that flew over into their run this morning. She's hanging in there. I don't know if she can pull through this or not. I put her in the brooder house to stay warm and quiet with antibiotics. Hope everybody is doing well, staying warm and "grounded" in all this wind. And if you're having predator problems like me, I hope you have your shotgun handy when you need it.

Also wanted to mention that there is a Farmer's Market Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Rose Farm, 1872 Sharon Road, Woodruff. This is where Reidville Rd intersects with Hwy 101 for you local people. There will be about 10 vendors and they always have different things. Usually fresh baked goods, winter greens and Native Meats will have their pasture raised chicken, beef, pork and lamb for sale. I'll be there selling eggs. It's held inside a horse barn so it's not too bad in cold weather. Just wanted to share in case someone is looking for something to do.

Thanks Amy! This one has a tan tint (or off-white) so this just may be from the black...it is definitely not a white egg. Now that I am armed with this tid-bit of your knowledge all I need is the other to lay an egg and I will have a comparison to be positive...LOL Thanks for the tip! This fall I would go into my 6x12 coop and sit and look out into the yard. Had a good time "getting the bird's eye view"!

It was interesting watching the yard roaming rooster come to the door and make faces and noises at the girls in the coop with me!

Joy, I'm really sorry about the predators. I've surely been there and it stinks. Coyotes are hungry and getting more and more bold. It's really scary. Thankfully we haven't seen any coyotes or the hawk since our new dogs arrived. At least not in the middle part of the farm where everyone is. We were seeing coyotes during the day getting closer and closer. Wish I were closer to the Farmer's Market. That sounds fun!

Time to get everyone's water going. Brrr....
