South Carolina

Gosh, miss a while and I miss a lot!
I do like the "Go to last post" and unread posts but so far nothing else is too easy on this new BYC.
I do have a auction up and it is going okay but one person PM'd me their bid. I had to explain that it needed to go below the post.

Oh hey, I want to know where to buy adult Silkies for $8?? Someone on FB said they can buy adults for $8 when I said my half grown ones were that price. So what kind of Silkie do you get for $8? Not a big deal on my part as I love my blue and black Silkie kids and was holding on to these for myself. Maybe I should price them higher than $8 as I usually sell out quicker than I like. I just almost fell over when they said they could get adults for that price and wonder where I am missing out?

Wish I could see that post! Usually any that price are not good stock. Some breeders will sell pet quality birds for $10.
Some sell chicks up to a month old for $10.

Susanne I am watching the two purebred buffs that I hatched out. One is from Kentucky and the other is from Mary Robbins. So far they look like girls but what do I know. I may be looking for a buff roo a little later on.

It looks like most of the whites I hatched from Kentucky are going to be male.
But that is no problem because I have some super good stock in white already.

I have several partridge from Kentucky that look like girls. I do not plan on keeping any of them.

I think (?) I am going to concentrate on whites, buffs and splashes.
Later on, I want to get some porcelain and maybe some lavenders for eye candy.

You all can relate to this. This morning, I was standing in the silkie section of my coop counting how many breeder pens can I put in there. I already have two in the other silkie section. I think I can get 5 or 7 more in there.

I think I will be able to separate breeding pairs the way I need to if I don't go overboard with colors.

Last week my DH was trying to figure out a way to expand my coops outside but I told him no. We have trees around the coop that I do not want to cut. He just loves to build.

Wish my DH liked to build.

Silkies do not lay alot....I try to keep 5-6 hens per roo in the breeding pens.

RIght now I am hatching whatever is laid....not even in breeding groups.

I need to increase my flocks with new BBS birds.

I lost a roo the other day.... he starved himself. He was one of my only 2 silver partridge roos.I watched him refuse to eat on a daily basis. Nothing I did could get him to take more than one or two pecks of food.

Good news is I have not lost any over night lately - I think because of an owl... mainly cause they are in the basement now lol

Kimberly I have several blue / black that I hatched from Mary Robbins. I will not be keeping them.
I will let you know when they get a little older. There may be some good ones in that group.

If I lived closer I would like to come see your extra roosters (plus all of your other chickens!), but I am about 2 1/2 hours away. If we find ourselves heading in your direction, in the near future, I'll contact you and see what your schedule is. Sometimes I can talk my husband into taking chicken road trips!

Sounds good! You wouldn't believe (or at least I can't!) how far people drive on chicken road trips.
