Amy - sorry to hear about your loss of Cowboy. It seems to be a year of losses....I lost my "Blue", my first pet rooster. He was my giant blue cochin roo and was about 7 years old. He lived a good life but I do miss him. And yesterday I found my first peacock "Percy" dead in the pen. He hadn't been sick and there wasn't a mark on him. I was heartbroken as he was my only black shoulder. We bought him about 6 years ago and he was an adult then so I have no idea how old he was. We will be having a peacock funeral later today.

Neat! Okay, not neat about the creatures but neat about the camera. You are catching a lot of critters on camera. Now rig a shotgun to it so when it snaps the photo it shoots the varmint! Bingo!

It must make a noise because the Coyote is looking right at the camera!

I wonder what the raccoon is looking at?
With all your land and woods around your place they really love coming up close.

I am so glad Jolie takes care of most everything here. I am still finding dead possums and raccoons in the woods so it must be an endless stream. You would think they would learn! The foxes certainly stay away now but the deer and turkey are still brave enough to venture into the pasture if Jolie is on the other side of the property. My neighbor drives a truck and leaves in the middle of the night a lot of times. He says he sees deer in my pasture in the front but also sees coyotes crossing the road a few hundred yards down our road when he leaves out.

I wish we could get a shotgun to work with the motion detector on the camera, that sure would make things easier. Except for the stray kitty that I have pics of, I wouldn't want to shoot him. The camera must click as I have lots of pics of the raccoons and coyote looking directly at it but it doesn't seem to bother them. The raccoon is probably looking at my dogs. The old dogs are in that yard and they come up to that fence line to bark. That's what worries me about the coyote, I have lots of pictures of him hiding in that brush just watching that yard. Not sure if he's interested in the birds or the dogs. My dogs wouldn't stand a chance against him, they are very frail at 14 years old. They don't hear well and Booker can't see very well either. I really think I need another LGD or maybe 2 more if I could get some that are working. I can't deal with trying to train anymore right now. Obviously they are smarter than me because I can't teach them what I want them to do.

I am hoping to get some from the Guy in Gray Court with those gorgeous giant buffs!! Atleast maybe a tom or a couple eggs! I need to PM him!! Of course now he will know I want some!!

This would be my first show and I would enter Scrappy but he is OEGB and must be dubbed and I wont do it...I love his comb...
allthough those blue cochins from you are looking awsome...unfortunatly the feet feathers are rough from being on the ground..and flooded this week!

I have never taken any to a huge show to sell but if you are taking chicks make sure to take several hand warmers to keep them warm and if you sell any you can give them to the new owners to keep them warm til they get them home, too. Plus, any you don't sell have to stay overnight with you all and be warm.
Lucky you, getting to stay over night. We did that at dog shows, horse shows and piggie shows but I can't see me be able to leave the farm over night with all I have now. It cost me a small fortune last time I hired a farm care taker for the week we were in PA for the Guinea Pig Specialty.

Those eggs may be Olive Eggers when they grow up and lay but I never hold my breath anymore since I have a lot of fluffy faced brown egg layers.
I, unfortunately, always keep the small ones. I hate to sell anything too small and it have a hard life. Darned old bleeding heart! I can't stand to think of anything not having a great life and if they are small they get knocked around too much.

I am not sure about the renting the 4 holer for $1. Haven't done it.

Don't blame you, I would not dub at this point either.

Oh wow, I hate to hear you lost that nice big blue roo. He was on up in years and I had thought that since he made it through last winter when it was so snowy and cold that he would do better this year but it was his time, I guess. He lived a nice long life.
Emptynester has a gorgeous blue roo she can part with! Too bad she is closer to us.

And how terrible to lose the peacock! I never thought about how long they live.

I haven't lost much lately except for that Muscovy girl and I have no idea how old she was either but Herman looks to be on up in years. I figure Penelope was, too.

Alas, there will be no more Cowboy kids. He passed away yesterday morning. Not sure what happened other than his heart giving out. I had put him breeding with a flock of girls when he came back from Nella Bean's place and he fertilized those with gusto and then I decided to put him with other girls in another pen and noticed he felt lighter. He had been molting and was lighter when I got him back but I was sure that was from feather loss since he was not nearly as fluffy as before his molt but when I moved him I noticed he had lost an entire pound and that is a lot for a bantam Cochin so I watched him and after 2 days of him not showing much interest in the new girls I moved him to a crate and started him on meds but he wasn't eating. I forced some of the meds into him and he took it well, which is a bad sign anyhow. Yesterday morning I found him in his crate, still sitting up but very dead.
There was no coughing, sneezing, wheezing or anything. I would not have really noticed it if I had not put him in with new girls and after a short while of courting and breeding he started looking lethargic and never perked up. I watched him closely, held him and thought for sure he was coming down with something but there was nothing evident.

Anyhow, I have some of his offspring and Nella Bean has some of his offspring for sale so he lives on but not in the way I wanted him to. I had a lot of plans for him and hope the last of these eggs will hatch. I have his sister and she is doing well but the brat won't lay me any eggs yet. She is in with Ranger and I can't wait to hatch from them.
Cowgirl is pretty but not as full and round as her brother was.

Ranger should give me some stunning offspring with these girls from Nella Bean and a few others I added. I have a Cowboy daughter in with him, too.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry. I haven't really ever thought about mottled anything but those black and white ones are gorgeous! Sorry about poor Cowboy. I lost a white silkie hen a couple days ago and have no idea why. I went out at dusk and everyone was in the coop but her. She was just sitting by herself in the run. I put her in the coop but she was dead in the morning. No sign of anything.

I'm so sorry you lost your boy!

And I am so sorry about cowboy...he was such a pretty pretty boy! I was so busy this morning I was posting in a flash! BTW Flash sounds like a naughty boy! LOL I am still catching up on thoughts and comments! The show and eggs had me in a tizzy this morn then I went to get the kids from school and bought a greenhouse...sorta! I bought 6 huge alum framed roll out windows to make me one! If I take chicks I will be well prepared to not only keep them warm but also for buyers needs! I still may not even take any! The few I have now are mostly feathered or will be except the 5 EE in the bator from the swap. They are for the val day hatch! I am looking now into letting Dixie show my Self Blue OEGB gal...she is less than a year old...rarely lays and is super tiny..she is smaller than alot of seramas I see!! She is also super social and calm but wipes her beak on her back and always has a dingy spot but I can bathe her easy!...when I met the breeder that I got my 2nd gal from he said I had a A line roo and gal and had me buy a B line(class?) gal for breeding...she started laying a little over 2 weeks ago and hasnt missed a day! I have been studing size ratings and I am getting the scale I need tomorrow to do weight checks!

I'm pretty sure the whole family is going to the Newnan show. My kids are off school Friday and Monday so that makes it easier. It will be our first show. Just going to observe though. I might have to take a couple of crates in case I see something I must have!

I am thinking of keeping the small one because small size seems important in bantam showing ??? She is a fiesty lil bugger too...bullies all the others! Also, the mottled pair I got from you also look good...would they be cowboy kids? I know he was with Nella for a while about that time.

I really want to use the show to learn more what my stock should be working towards for selling well and to see how a show works...I dont think the little 4H show I went to and bought all the auction birds is going to be comparable!! Plus they have old cars and tractors!! I will be in heaven!!
