South Carolina

That is what I was saying basically in the post I lost last night.

We have a Border Collie...got him around 8-12 months of age....was raised as a pet not a farm dog. But he instinctively herds our goats......and ducks....... lol

I did train our Aussie we had. She is the reason I have silkies BTW. Long story.

Didn't know you had a Border Collie! How did I miss that?
Yeah, they use Border Collies in Ireland to herd ducks. Probably other places in Europe but I can't think where, maybe Scotland instead of Ireland.

Love a Border Collie but I don't want to own a dog that is smarter than me!

I did tell Mary for you and Heidi. I take care of my friends!

And as you can see I am still catching up in between chores!
Patsy, please do try both. Store bought honey is nothing like local honey and Mary's is the first that hasn't given me headaches but I have been getting the creamed honey. I have not had her regular honey yet since the creamed honey is so good.

Thank you, Mary! I love you and your good honey giving bees!

Thank you Amy! I will have to touch bases with Mary before I go and see how I can find her at the show.

I used to say the same thing. Although at that time we had no dogs. Some days I am tired of all the caring for farm and family but then realize how blessed I truly am. I would love to add an Anatolian pup and may do it yet but things are a bit unsettled now so it may be a bit longer.

Since the hawk attacks Jolie has taken to staying on the hill at the old riding ring so she can watch the barnyard and the front pasture. She can see most all of the farm from that spot and I wonder if I should move her dog house but she seldom uses it and sleeps out in the rain, sun and snow. It is just those storms that make her run INTO the barn where I pile up trash.

Been trying to catch up on the thread and saw this--I love Border Collies! I still have one very old guy here that can hardly walk. I use to have 3 and I loved them all dearly. The two that are gone were trained to herd and I did work them on ducks early on. Ducks get use to dogs though and will not move well for them or at least mine did. The old male I had would use his chest to push them into their pen because they were not afraid of him and would not move. I loved that dog! But that was another life in another place and time....

But....but....he just wants to lick them! Just like his mommy! Catch them, hold them, love them! He just hasn't figured out how to do it yet! At least he doesn't kill them.
Ooooohhhhh, Nicole....teach Seeley how to be gentle. You teach all the other animals everything.
Even Gil knows how to read! Geez!

Nicole says she does NOT want to lick the chickens!

She is LOL'ing though!

We drove to Iron Station NC to get him. He was named already "Flash" because as a pup he was sort of.............SLOW.

He smiles & loves everyone that will pet him.

I tried to put a pic in but it said problem with server........so oh well. It froze my browser after the third try.......there went all my tabs when I had to restart it cause I forgot to click restore session..... UGH.

BTW: Nicole says just because Mom is the alpha dog, does not mean she & DH listen to me. But the dogs do.
