South Carolina

See...I felt I was a day off...I actually removed turners and loaded water for lockdown Wednesday night! I hope I haven't messed up the hatch. As of right now I have 6 pipped in a bator with 25 eggs and zero pipped in other bator with 27 eggs in there.

Thanks for helping me count! I will remember the part about they usually pip the same day they were set...depending on breed of course...LOL

No problem, they should be fine. I always look at the calendar and count by 7's (weeks) - 7, 14, 21 - then I know what day they should hatch. But there's always an early bird or a straggler with every hatch. Never short on surprises. Good luck, I hope they all hatch for you.

Sounds like everyone had fun yesterday! Those Orpingtons are gorgeous. I would love to get some gold laced myself but they are hard to come by. So at this point I will settle for buffs.

While y'all were having fun I was installing Operation D(efense)

Pic 1: the trench I dug. Pic 2: The chicken wire. Actually 2 layers. one layer is buried under the visible one that you see here and the wire is cut on the edge at the fence line so that if that stupid dog tries to dig under again he will be poked. and pic 3 is when it is completed. all smoothed over and nice.

and below you see my catahoula, Rebel, keeping an eye on the chickens and the sky. All she does is herd those chickens all day long. And then Rebel and my pitt bull mix Hailey laying pretty for the camera. Good Dogs!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Wow you were busy! I hope your work pays off and keeps the critters at bay. Love the dogs!

One of my peacocks died today. They were both eating great and then about Thursday I noticed the were not eating that great but both looked fine. When we got home yesterday the one was droopy and today he died. I am very bummed with my peacock adventure. I have wormed them and even gave them some acorn squash last week when they seemed to not be eating well. I guess it could be blackhead but I see no signs in the droppings that make me think it is. I think my peacock adventure may be about over....

Looks like a great Plan D!

Beautiful pups! Were they out when the attack happened? Looks like they're doing a good job of guarding there.

Glad you made it home safe!! I really enjoyed meeting everyone...I KNOW I TALK WAY TOO MUCH!!

I had such a good time and learned so much. We sat last night and have decided we are getting away from RIR's and going with BO"S in lots of colors...and BIG!

My 2 gals I do have are small but lay a nice egg and are much sweeter than my reds...and I love the Blues...So if anyone has some Blue/lav or any color BO eggs to sell I would love to buy and many of ya'll I can go pick up so they wont go through PO abuse!! My DH also spent the eve planning a call duck garden with my pond in it!!

Now I just have to figure out what the heck I am gonna do with Puffy....stupid pigeon! LOL DH "accidently"(yeah right) let him loose in my house last night!

Can he live with chickens?? Guess I have research to do AGAIN!

I have my pigeons and chickens together. My pigeons live with my seramas and BB Red hen.

Also meant to say that my blue orps are laying well and I'm selling the eggs. I only have two hens, so I get 2 eggs a day. They are nice eggs and I'm having good hatches. I'll be having some juvenile orps for sale too but I think they'll all be splash.

I left the eggs at Amy's
I did not get a chance to get back online but just long enough to print tickets for DD. I totally forgot to get your number off my desk when I left yesterday morning.
I definitely did not plan to be that late...by the time we got horses and goats fed after our appointments it was almost 4!

No problem, I knew you were having a crazy busy day. I'm gonna get those eggs today sometime. Thanks so much! Hate that I missed seeing you though.

Who doesn't love batorvision?
Since last night I have had Marans hatching out with 2 Olive Eggers (light egg on the left front and one on the back row) and bantam Cochin. Every Marans egg I set developed and I now only have 2 left that haven't hatched since I took this photo about 2 hours ago.
My incubator is now full but Debra brought me eggs to set and I have some BLRW for Blueberry Hill going plus all the Lavender Muscovy and Runner eggs that are laid.

Yes, the hatcher looks dirty but it has been running almost non stop for over 2 years and gets cleaned only about twice a month. Styrofoam is not easy to keep clean with as many hatches as I do. Oxine can only do so much.
And yes, I open it and pull out egg shells as they hatch. They just keep hatching right along.

Addictive? Naaaaahhhhhh........

I didn't notice the bator for drooling over your tiny Marans! I must come visiting again soon and maybe snatch a few...LOL

Awww...I hate that for you! I always wanted a peacock just to watch wander around! I know a lady that knows a lady that sells peacock hatching eggs for $5. If I got one I think I would rather buy a live bird...course it would be fun to watch hatch and grow too...I haven't made up my mind. I have also been toying with the idea of a turkey too after seeing beautiful ones posted here...so sad for your peacock and you...
