How many of you guys is going to the show this coming Sat.?
I know a few of us are going and will see each other but wonder who else.
Samantha? Will your mom be home so she can come along?

Anyone else get the US Census Ag Report? Got my second notice because hubby shredded the first one.

Did you find out anything, Kimberly?

Nope. House phone was dead as heck. I last was on it couple of days ago...but lost it LMAO found it this morning & it was dead. It has been on charge since 9am o should be ready to use as soon as I finish feeding my face lol

i havent read it yet but found this online
http://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Popular_Topics/National_Agricultural_Classification_Survey/

That's funny that it says it conducts this every 5 years but we have never received one before and we have lived here almost 26 years. Very odd.......

I spoke with someone. :)

Yeah she said that the ag survey is every 5 yrs. Next year is one. This is the consensus for that ag thing or some crap. Basically they ask the states to inform them of people that have the capacity for ag business. She does not know where the states compile the information from.

I filled ours out for the horses, goats, and chickens we had in 2011. You only have to report 2011 figures. Acreage I am too lazy to go down there and check the deed so I guesstimated.
Now way can I give an exact number for pasture and wooded parts.....I can of the little sliver across the highway that is about 1.5 acres. LOL....Way I see it...they want exact figures, they can pay the surveyor for me.

I told her I have not seen one of those in 20 years & no one else has ever - and that land had not been farm land in probably close to 60 yrs.....

I told her one of those names on ours that I was telling you about... there is NO WAY it would be on ANYTHING.

BTW: Poultry section is mostly concerning commercial operations and farmers with contracts to egg companies and such. Check Table Egg if you don't have contracts or a commercial operation.

With the egg cartons...if you are going to use those....be sure to punch the bottoms of the cartons out too. At least for me that seems to help.
I know Amy hatches this way - not sure if she uses whole cartons or not.

I have seen people use whole cartons but the eggs need air flow to keep them from over heating and you get better air flow with holes in the carton. I actually use a hatching tray when I can which has lots of wholes. I love hatching!

It was mailed. I called the number on the form to check about what I should enter, then filled it out online.
I said a few things -

1- never heard of this before and I been involved with this 20 years. Matter of fact, neither have any of the farmers around our little farm ever had to do this. And our land is a parcel of a bigger 60+ acreage which was a parcel of several hundred acres 75-100 yrs ago.

2- Person mail was directed to is WRONG.

Joy...I think people having over certain acreage are one of the groups in SC that were targeted. That does not explain how they came up with the name that was on our survey.
No reason it should have been on there at all.

I have no clue how they got our info. Wrong name was listed along with the right name.

It does look like junk mail...but the outside of the envelope says response required by law on the left. I would rather do that than have census people show up out of the blue.

I think all census workers should have to call me for an appointment

The letter I received was addressed to me and my name is not associated with this property at all. It is in my husbands name and has been in his family for several generation. I am not sure how they got my name and address.
