Hello fellow south carolinians... I need some advice..My baby chicks have become quite adventurous..I have one chick in particular that is bullying the other chicks and insist on trying to escape the brooder area.. I have the chicks in a 6' x 1 1/2' aquarium. I'm not sure how to discourage or prevent this baby chick from escaping but would welcome all suggestioins.. Its very important that the chick doesn't escape for several reasons.. 1. It's a long way down from the top of the aquarium (it's on a large stand).. 2. We have a resident fat, lazy kitty that has been eyeballing the chicks from below the aquarium all week.. For the record..the lazy cat can't get to the top of the aquarium to get to the birds, but if one (crazy, adventurous chick was to fly out it would be a different story.. Hopefully y'all can suggest some cheap methods to keep these babies safe..
I have wire covers that fit over my aquariums to keep the chicks in. But you could always use a piece of cardboard and some tape as a quick fix. I also use plastic lids from storage boxes to cover some brooders that might need more heat. Your tank might get too hot if it's covered tight so you could poke some holes in the cardboard. Just a thought.
