It's been really busy around the farm, longer days and warm temps mean it's time to get some work done! I wanted to share some good news, this week I got my first turkey eggs (3 so far) and my first guinea eggs. I think spring has sprung. Also wanted to share an experiment that I've been doing with shipped eggs. I received 2 boxes of eggs at the same time and I candled them to check the air sacs. The one box (my Dorking eggs) were really in bad shape with the majority of the eggs having floating air sacs. I also had 15 BLRW eggs that didn't look too bad, only a few showing damaged air sacs. So I put the worst eggs, the Dorkings, on my hatcher tray for the first week and did not turn them at all. The BLRW eggs went into the egg turners. At 7 days I candled them and 10 of the 15 Dorking eggs had veins! These were the worst eggs and 2/3 of them are growing. I checked my BLRW eggs and they didn't look so good, only 5 eggs out of 15 had veins. From now on, any shipped eggs that I receive will go without any turning for the first week. I now have the Dorking eggs in the turner and they seem to be growing well. I'll let you know if I have a good hatch from them. Just wanted to share that bit of information. Boy what a LOOOONG day. Learned so much. So Kmberly didnt want her picture taken and I never like mine, but I actually got one of Robert.
We all did great and are now NPIP testers.
