My eggs are Rhode Island Red / Barred Rock sexlinked crosses (I call them an upside cross because I'm using the RIR hens and the BR cocks. my chickens are pure breeds ). IF you want to try your hand at hatching them. your welcome to them. I'm still looking for a nice RIR rooster to stumble across.
Let me know and I'll be glad to let you have what you want of them.

I agree...we got home at 5...put up the FEW we brought back home(had a great selling day!!) Had Beau find a whole mess of eggs from my freerange flock in the woods...he brought me 3 and then showed us the rest...he is a dumb house dog but a smart farm dog for sure...did necessary feed and waters( will do full mess in morn!) and now cooking supper!! I am flat wore out!!

This may sound a bit odd.. I have a friend of mine that puts large ceramic eggs in with his chickens. That black snake has been smelling all those chickens and will swallow that ceramic egg. He is trapped in the coup he can not get back through the wire. Kill the snake toss his body out in the woods. and go get your ceramic eggs back in a couple months

Well we had a rather startling surprise awaiting us at the coop yesterday. DH walked out to check on the chickens and found a 5 foot snake skin sitting beside our coop. This really concerns me for 2 reasons: 1 being that there is at least a 5 foot snake running around my yard (Ick.. I really dislike snakes) and 2: I'm worried about my chickens safety. The hens are not laying as of yet (too young) but I would hate to think that snake would be able to get ahold of one of my chickens. Has anybody else had this problem? What can I do to keep that sneaky snake out of my coop and away from my chickens? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I had a good time at the Chickenstock but the ride there was a little less than fun! I didn't have a GPS and had trusted google maps and boy did they send me in circles! Then I had to try to get correct directions from my dad via a phonecall. NOT FUN! I was almost in tears when I finally got there! Note to self: next time either force DH to come along for the ride or borrow my parents GPS! Anyways, I thought it was a great event! Wish I'd gotten there earlier as Mary said most of the good stuff went quickly! But it was great seeing Amy and getting some eggs from her. And got to chit chat with Mary a bit and got some of her awesome honey! Luckily for DH I didn't see anything else that I couldn't live without! I did get my niece an adoreable crocheted hat that looks like a little chick though! I will be much more prepared next time with correct directions and will get there EARLY!

Lauren I went to a big beekeepers meeting 2 years ago. I used Mapquest maps. It was a disaster.
I was supposed to turn on roads that no longer existed. Very isolated area and only one store with no restroom. Luckily I had an old Rand-McNally atlas in my car. Finally found a way thru using it. After that until I got my GPS, I always used at least 2 mapping websites to double check routes.
GPS's can give you some strange directions too. I have went into areas that I was not comfortable in by myself and told to turn left where no left turns allowed.....and so on. They do work wonderful most of the time.

I use google maps because I like having written directions and I have GPS on my phone....both were correct yesterday!! I have had problems though in the past...MORGANTON was an extra hour getting there due to a bad map!!

Had a blast at Chickenstock! If you all have not seen the photos then go to the thread as Matt did put some up.
Can't miss me, I am standing under my bright yellow West Knoll sign! Hey, you found me, didn't you? LOL

I sold so much and was delighted since I didn't buy anything except a jar of jelly and a tank top. Ha! I only brought home eggs from Sam-Bam. Thank you, sweetie!

Great seeing you all again. Hated that it was a bit chilly but better than raging hot, imo.

It was so fun to have people come up and try to get you lower on the prices, only to have another come up a few minutes later and pay the asking price. I had one guy come by as we were loading up wanting to get all the stuff he had previously tried to get at a lower price. I guess he thought I would not be able to sell pullets for $25 or roos for $10. Terry said he looked rather surprised when I hollered out from inside the camper that it was all sold and gone. I brought home very little and what i did bring home will probably be sold soon since I have had emails and PMs from folks that missed me yesterday or decided now they want certain ones they did not get. Pretty cool!
