Hooray! I am so glad to know those duck eggs are doing the right thing! I know you are too excited!
How sweet to give your broody some babies. Otherwise, I suppose she may sit there forever, waiting on air to hatch! LOL I hate when they nest high but at least that will keep some others out of her nest.
Terrific about school! I can't wait til ours is out here. With Leah driving now every morning is an experience!

Good luck on that hatch and enjoy the time with chicks and garden!
Thanks Amy!! And just to let you know the eggs I got from you are all looking great so far! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an AWESOME hatch! Some of the exchequer leghorn eggs I had shipped have some detached air cells so I'm hoping I'll still get a good many that hatch out of those. I'll candle them again tonight or tomorrow probably :) I'm really ready for some good luck with my chickens! DH has already plowed up the garden spot..just have to go borrow my Papa's tractor with the tiller on it then I'll be all set!

Now the fun begins..or my addiction grows..not sure which LOL.. I just got me an incubator :D now the question is what to hatch? Being as my babies are not quite old enough to lay just yet I'll have to buy eggs.. I'm not sure what I want to try to hatch. I know its going to take a bit of trail and error the first few times.. but the hard part is decided what breed to try? Any suggestions for this first timer?

I think it depends on what you want on your farm. You can be fairly successful with anything if you do your research. Buy from a good breeder and buy local if you can. Shipped eggs definitely carry a risk but sometimes you have to go that route. Lots of have eggs so once you decide on a particular breed, ask away!

If you have the time, visit my website. It is huge and it shows most of the breeds I have. Not all of them but most of them.
If you fall in love with any breeds or varieties you are welcome to email me or PM me with questions on the breed. If you live close enough you are welcome to come out and meet the birds in person to see if that is what you would like to hatch and add to your farm or sell. But be warned, there are more breeds here than on my website! And most folks fall in love with more than one breed! Or variety!

Most everyone on the thread has been here once or many times and most people have birds from me. I have beautiful birds and affordable prices. Most of my stock has been here on the farm for several years and I have multiple generations where I have improved my breeding stock.

Whatever you decide and whatever you get, I hope it will be a great pleasure.

A person can never go wrong with straight Rhode Island Reds. and nothing is easier to sell if you get over run. if you need some pure breed eggs to start with let me know. and my incubators never cut off. so I'll hatch on demand if anyone wants chicks.

rut row, you have definitly caught the bug! Thanks for visiting us yesterday. many on here have beautiful birds well cared for. The 2 midgets you meet last night are from Amy. Susanne has silkies and much more. I know you like the silkies. You know alot of Sams and Patseys birds, so many more on here, who have some of the same breeds and others. Take the time to look around and see all the birds then ask.

Oh and for all the new SC folks, welcome. Every now and then, Robert, my better half, even though he is trouble, will post using my username, but he will always sign it as Robert. So you know it is from him.

We look forward to meeting more BYC folks too.
