South Carolina

After months of begging to start my call duck coop I decided to break ground on it by myself today! DH got home after I finished the first 2 post holes. He helped me dig the last 2 (but I made sure that I started those holes too!) I want to make sure he can't say that I didn't do most of the work!

I plan on getting the posts this weekend and hopefully getting some boards on there too! And I have to get DH to go pick up my Papa's tractor to FINALLY till up my garden..

can't believe I still don't have a garden planted. Hope everyone's having a great day!

OK I posted that I only have one chick and am worried it won't do well since it is alone. I am starting some new eggs this weekend hopefully but of course they won't be ready for some time. It seems to be the general consensus that I should have a friend for my chick to develop correctly. I am worried since my chick has bad feet that a new little one will be mean to it. It was suggested that I get a more gentler breed. Anyone near Laurens or within an hour's drive (Greenville or Spartanburg or Columbia) have a chick I can get?

OK so my neighbors have ducks and people on here seem to love their ducks but I was wondering, do people have ducks for a purpose or just as pets?
My ducks are just pets..other than I hope to eventually be able to sell pairs of their offspring since they come from a very good breeding line. Mine are call ducks so they are bantam sized. There are larger sized ducks that are great for eggs or meat. Apparently duck eggs are great to bake with. I plan on adding a new breed of ducks hopefully this summer

Welcome GArdenjunkie. There are many on here who should be able to help out. It takes a few days for everyone to post and find your post, so be patient.

Pudellvr, i think there is a swap planed in florence this weekend, might be a great place to meet folks who can help you out.

there is one in Gaston too, and ill be there

I have 2 pekin ducks that lay the larger eggs.. They are said to be great for baking. My ducks are only a couple of weeks old and are not laying yet, but I do look forward to baking with the eggs.

Amy, the shipping took its toll on these eggs. Your packing far exceeds what these were packed in. All I'm saying.

I'm sorry to hear that. I do love for eggs to arrive in excellent shape but who knows what the PO does to the box while in route. There are so many places to find out how to wrap well.

RedBug, your eggs arrived here in great shape today. Wonderfully wrapped and rested a while. Now popped in the bator with timer going. Can't wait! Thank you again!

I had one of the Porcelains to peck at me the other day. I figured that meant he needed to be held and loved and kissed on and petted and tortured with lots of love. He has been on his best behavior since. Phooey, no more of that kissy crap, he says!

But yeah, spring is beastly!
