HI!

I'm in the greenville/spartanburg area and I'm very interested in getting one or two more hens. We currently have 3. Does anyone know of somewhere close to get them? Breed isn't too important. Right now we have Buckeyes and 1 Faverolle. Thanks so much in advance!!

Welcome!
I am also in the Greenville/Spartanburg area.

Wish I could help you out but I have sold too many this spring already. Now my egg sales have sky rocketed and I can't keep up with all the sales. However, now is the time for people to learn how great duck eggs can be. My Golden Cascades lay like mad! And I just hatched out 16 more.

Duck eggs are phenomenal! So much better than chicken eggs. Excellent for baking or scrambled with a touch of cheese, maybe a bit of summer sausage added, or over easy with some grits....it goes on. Duck eggs are my favorite!
I love my ducks, too though. I have all kinds and colors. They are terrific!

YANCY!!! YES!

OK I posted that I only have one chick and am worried it won't do well since it is alone. I am starting some new eggs this weekend hopefully but of course they won't be ready for some time. It seems to be the general consensus that I should have a friend for my chick to develop correctly. I am worried since my chick has bad feet that a new little one will be mean to it. It was suggested that I get a more gentler breed. Anyone near Laurens or within an hour's drive (Greenville or Spartanburg or Columbia) have a chick I can get?

Been a long but super fun day!! I got to visit 2 great friends today!! My Amy and the other is a secret...for now...its a surprise!! Any how...missed all the yakkin today....Catch up tomorrow maybe...got another friend to visit and a farm I have not been to yet!!

I was able to pick up some beautiful orpingtons. They were hatched from Lone Palmetto Farms eggs. One Lav, 1 Blue, and 1 Black. They are beautiful and are all sprouting their tail feathers. They are about 9 days old but of course out size my bantam by a bit! This bantam partridge wyandotte is a mess! He runs and pecks at anything that enters the brooder! Bossy little thing.

Welcome to all the newbies. You can spend a ton of time learning here!

I am a hatch-a-holic but if I think about it I start to get nervous that I am taking on too much!!! I try not to think about it! lol! I mean what am I going to do with these chicks? I think my house is already starting to smell like chickens. I get enough trouble from my mom about my house smelling like my dog!! Anyway the whole thing was just suppose to be a project and I am afraid it is turning into a way of life! I am not sure I am ready for that!!!

I was even considering going to the swap this weekend--sounds like fun!!! However we have a birthday to celebrate so that will keep me busy! I am enjoying teaching my boys about the different breeds and the ins and outs of hatching eggs. I keep saying I am doing the second hatch so that they don't have a bad experience/memory associated with the chickens. What will be my excuse for the next hatch if this one goes well??? lol!

Sounds like alot is going on around here. I will miss both of the swaps, as I am debuting my dog, Saucey, in obedience this weekend. Will be in Columbia, but wont make it to either swap.

Avonshire, we have a singleton hatch, and we menat to get her a hatch mate, but just never did. Well she is a very spoiled people oriented chicken, and doesnt know chicken talk. She is 7 wks, and some of our chickens hate her, they attack her, dont know if it is her lack of chicken talk or she is apartridge wyandotte, and looks like a hawk, but man, poor thing. So I have her in the pen with the littles, Nepolean and minnie pearl. (Better know to Amy and Toby and Bride) So far, Nepolean is ok with her, even though she kind of bows up at him, minnie pearl is a little unsure and sorta goes after her, but nothing bad.

So I hope the little will teach her chicken talk. SO th elong of it, finding a chick to go with your singleton would be wise.

Sam, your 2 goldnecks are liking the new house. Lots more room and stuff to jump up on.

We always have a fabulous time when we get together! I feel like it flies by much too fast and even the day you and the family came and spent the entire day helping us clean up the place after the storm, I felt we still had so much more to talk about. Too much fun!

You are going to be exhausted by Sunday after lunch. I hope you get to rest by your new pond! You deserve and need it!
