Here's my little chick that hatched in the incubator after mama hen left the egg in the nest. SHE is a black copper marans x blue orpington. I'm afraid she's gonna get lonely though. Now I'm just trying to decide if I should go find her a friend...

I would. I had the same dilemma and went ahead and got a second and they are so cute together. Btw she is very sweet!

Lou Ann and Inhave a broody Maran sitting on some hatching eggs I got from amy. She has about a week to go ( the longest week ever!). Since it is getting so warm now and she is in the nest box in the coop, do we need to do anything to make sure she isn't getting to hot? There is a fan in there, and she did pick the box that is in from of the door with a vent right in front of her. We are thinking of putting a small battery powered fan outside the door. One that will not be too loud, just to keep some air moving.
Lou Ann got some great shots last week of her when she left the nest box. She took the longest dust bath ( at least 8-10 minutes) and then got up on. Their stump and stretched before going in to eat and drink. I will get them and post them later. Going to head out now and doing the last bit of securing Mom and chicks separate area of the run. They will be with everyone eventually, but not for awhile.

Thought I would try posting this here too, I am searching for an old chicken tractor, I'm really just looking for a frame. I have wire and roofing but I can't make a frame strong and steady to save my life

I don't have much money and would be willing to work out some kinda trade, and if possible maybe give gas $ to deliever if you aren't to far away.

Okay, I am just now catching up and saw this.
If you can't find someone close that can help, like Samantha's hubby, John, then let me know. I can easily put you a frame together for your wire and roofing and maybe deliver.

Just joined BYC yesterday and just now finding my way here. I live in the Midlands and have 8 chickens. 6 RIR and 2 Speckled Sussex, all hens. We picked them up at the Tractor Supply in Lexington, SC the Friday before Easter. Finished up the coop this weekend and looking forward to watching them grow. Thinking about ordering the Rainbow Layer package from McMurray Hatchery soon.

momd29--(still don't know your name even after meeting you!) I hope your eggies are doing something tonight!!!

Everyone it was so nice to meet you all today!! It was so hot--and I don't do hot well but I would have loved to spend some more time getting to know you all. It is not often I actually get to meet my internet friends--although it is not often that I get to just sit and chat either, my kids keep me busy!

Sam--thanks for the invite today--it was so nice to be able to see your place and animals and friends!!!!

Welcome to BYC! I am fairly new myself and am anxiously awaiting some Barr Rock chicks. I thought I had a farm locally, but no such luck. I am in the midlands as well. I had no idea Tractor Supply sold chicks! Do they sex them? May have to look into that as well.

We may be too far but John can build a good frame...he built the one we had at chickenstock...sturdy and can be built to custom sizes...even big enough to step in...I move all mine with a set of handtrucks under the end and pull where I want!!

I just wanted to THANK everyone for such a fun day...it was nice to chat and catch up all at once and meet some new faces!! And intro some faces to each other too!! Ya'll all rock!!
