Just got back from Huckleberry Farm this morning. I brought home a porcelain pullet (named her Petunia) and 3 coral blue guinea keets. Susanne has a beautiful place. You can see for miles and miles. Her new home is so pretty. As you look across the field toward her house you see the beehives painted beautiful pastel colors.

OK so what do you suggest to use for the floor of the coop? Pine shavings? Sand? Chopped hay? We are hoping to finish our coop in the next week and I need to decide!

Rule of thumb. on the floors. nothing that will absorb and hold water. like hay or straw or even sawdust that will cause mold and or mildew. sand, pine shavings wicks dry pretty fast but has a tendancy to have wet spots.. To be perfectly honest. for my money. you can not beat a good old fashion dirt floor. it rakes clean, provides trace minerals, all the grit you chickens will ever need. wont get as cold as a raised floor in the winter.and they can scratch down to cool dirt in the summer. and it just feels natural for the chickens to scratch in. chickens and dirt go together like creamy peanut butter and jelly. smooth to work with and just plain sweet for the birds.

Oh, Mary! That is great! I know you had been wanting Porcelains and this will be a great start. I hope one of mine is a girl. I am pretty sure one is a little roo but am holding my breath!
I know you enjoyed seeing her hives. And her whole place. The photos look so nice!

One of these days I will actually make it down to Susanne's. I keep trying but it never seems to pan out. I need to check with her to see how the duck eggs are developing I sent her.

I was posting some of my Frizzles on here the other day and finally got a photo of my Mottled Frizzle girl. I think I will be breeding her to my last hatched son of Cowboy, Hot Steel.

I was happy to get the porcelain pullet. Porcelain were on a wish list but I never expected to get them. Now I have to start looking for a roo to go with her. I need to learn about breeding that color. Amy I thought about calling you to ride with me down there but I had to go by our place at Iva on the way back.

Just had a little time to try to catch up on what is happening with people and I see you mentioned pictures of Susanne's--are their pictures some where that I have missed? I have so wondered how she is doing with her new house and being able to finally stay on her beautiful piece of land.

I am so busy I have such little time to get on here and talk with people~I miss you guys!

Mary, while I am on here, have I mentioned lately how much I really loved your "creamed honey"! I so wished you lived closer....

Amy, you have such beautiful bird! Do you have any picture of your d'Uccles? Did you say you had Mille Fleurs? I almost sold mine and called the man today and told him I just could not--he told me that it was probably a good idea as his birds keep dying for no reason.... Funny I woke up this morning thinking I just had to keep them.

Amy, I will take you to Susanne's. I really want to go and see the new house soon since I have followed it's construction on facebook since the day they picked out the design and the foundation was started. We will try to figure out a good time to go (once Susanne has recovered from moving in and saving her chickens!).

I knew when I saw you sent her a message on facebook that you were going after a silkie or two! I'm glad you were able to get a porcelain and also able to see Susanne's place. I can't wait until I can get down there again myself. I swear, the world just disappears the moment you drive onto that property.
