Last egg call.....gonna make me some scrambled or deviled eggs if there r no buyers/takers.
OR I might just see if leerob (sp?) will hatch for me

There is never a problem getting me to do that for you. ( and the pronunciation is correct ) ( Leigh, Robert E. hence leirob then comes the part about striking out twice before getting lucky )

They're here! They're here!

28 chicks - no pasty butts and busy eating and drinking! One spunky chick flew out of the box at me. They all look so perky and seem to be quite comfy in their new home. So EXCITED! I'll post pics when we get home from brunch!

it's 3 to 5 days to watch for the pasty back sides. they rarely come that way. Got your electrolytes? if not green gatoraid and water. ( 1 quart of gatoraid makes 1 gal of drinking water )

Aiken, SC checking in! I'd love to meet some local chicken enthusiasts...

Welcome aboard. we are not enthusiasts. we are overly compulsive , or just plain nutz if you prefer. My GF is mad. she says my chickens come before she does. I just answer with. " Your darned right, they never give me grief " I have no idea where she gets those ideas.

If I can get the freakin humidity down!! It spiked and with all vents open its still in 70s...augh!!

do not worry it will not stay there long. the main thing is do not get excited. and you added warm water like the book said didn;t you ........ I never do that always room temp or cooler... and a little spike never hurt a thing .. neither does a little dip when it drops below.. on my styrofoam incubators I always let it fall to the 30's before adding because I know it will spike. just keep the average where you want it and you can turn out perfect hatches. ( I have 9 perfect hatches this year so far )
this 1270 cabinet was a learning curve at first though. and it does not fluxuate ( it holds 5 gallons of water in a bucket feeding the water box with a float in it. ) of my 6 incubators I must say the hovabator with the humidity running down to 35% and spiking to the 70% range was the easiest to get a perfect hatch out of at first. the LG is too hard to keep enough water in even with 6 sponges in it you must add water ever 2 days to it. one a week or so with the hovabator and once a week or so with my home made " fishabators "

I'll keep that in mind. We're not chicken enthusiasts, but overly compulsive nutz. (Maybe your GF just needs to be reminded that she's your "lead chick."

LOL...I am freaked because there is no water and I have been hatching a long time!! DH "helped" me by closing the vent all the way and it got hot and humid in the old bathroom I use for my incubation room!! He did not know I had it cracked partway to keep humidity down...we live at the Lake so it gets humid fast here!! And it is impossible to drop humidity in a dry bator!!

Yay! More crazy SC chicken peeps!

Do you all ever get together anywhere in the southern part of the state? I am on the water, on the GA border...

RedBug - You got me looking up that kind of bird.... As if I need more...... ;-)

We let the little ones out with their mamma tonight for awhile, Lou Ann's dog, Murphy, is a great chicken herder! Of course, I did laugh pretty hard when Trooper, the little roo, took a run at him and pecked him. I guess he was letting Murphy know he didn't need no herding!

There are actually six chicks, but the blue Orp is off exploring on her own. It took her a minute to catch up.

We actually let a couple of the other hens out with the chicks. Maranda went after them at first, actually grabbing the comb of one, but then she moved on and the others were able to move out of her way. The next few weeks are going to be interesting around here,
