Idk really what he was that was my best guess I just thought he was handsome and a real sweet heart but I no there so many colors of cochins out there seems like someone coming up with a new color every week
Thats the great thing about cochins....even the mixed up colors are amazing =) I actually had some buyers sad when I sorted my flock out to thier proper color flocks!!

I have a chicken in the house....but only for a week, I promise!

I put some incubator eggs under her so she could share the load. When the chicks from the incubator hatch, I'll put them under her too. If all goes well, I'll have ten more silkie babies in a week

All were alive and getting big at last candling. I brought miss broody in to help keep the eggs warm and to help keep her warm and safe from being pushed around by the other silkies. She's adorably angry and protective of her eggs. She was sitting (and protecting) a golf ball out in the nest box when I found her. Silly broody silkies, you gotta love them.

What breed of banties? OEGB? Those are tiny as well as Seramas. My bantam Cochins are fluff balls so they don't look as small until they get wet.
One looks like an OEGB. It is actually turning into a rooster. I had no idea that could happen!!! So then I had to research the heck outta that!! (((FIRE UP BYC)))

So I assured the owner, even though her hen is crowing & growing new parts (larger waddles, combs, feathers- the whole 9 yards) that if she indeed confirmed it was a hen in the first place (she says it was laying eggs for a short time) she wouldn't be getting any fertile eggs from her new "Henster", as she doesn't want em. A few others look like Seremas &/or a few possibly brown leghorns. There is one fluffy butt she calls a "Cochin" but it's clean legged? I honestly don't think they (the owners) know what they are, because when I asked what breed of chicken they were they just said "bantams" and I was like "obviously".

I tried to turn them on to BYC, but alas, there are some folks out there that don't feel they have anything new to learn.... for example, she insisted my silkies are called "Cochin footed" (ummmm??? then what's that fluffy butted, clean legged banty again?) and I kept telling her I thought the proper term was simply "feather footed, Cochin is a breed". She was like "no it's Cochin feet!!" I just let it go... as I am so new to the whole chicken thing, I am not going to pretend to be an expert, but I at least am pretty sure "bantam" isn't a breed?

Gotta love these Silkies! Mine hatch eggs year around for me and raise the babies so well that I just let them go at it! This is a beautiful girl you have here! I know you and she will enjoy the new arrivals!

LOL Yes, I run into so many folks that like to tell me about poultry and have never researched anything. You aren't alone in wondering what these people are thinking. Cochins are my specialty. There is no such thing as a Cochin legged bird unless it is a Cochin! And there isn't a clean legged Silkie so Cochin legged Silkie is a made up name. And no, Bantam isn't a breed. LOL

I am in the upstate and desperatley need to get rid of 7 baby silkie bantams! 3 blues, 2 blacks and 2 splash! Let me know if you are interested!!!! :)

My husband is almost done with the coop!!! Oh PTL!!!! He built it into/under an existing carport type shelter. It has 3 separate roosting/nesting areas and will have separate runs for all too. It's so solid. He says we can't just call it a "coop", it's a "chicken house"!!! I think it's beautiful!! Can't wait to have them in their new HOME SWEET HOME!!!

holy chicken coop! i love it! tell hubby good job!

Does anyone know who might be breeding Sebastopol geese? Preferably blue/lilac/lavender...

I might just "need" to have a couple in the near future. LOL

I just saw a post from a lady in Florida who does have them and will ship. I would like a pair of white ones though if anyone finds some in SC.

Update on my flock: we are now living out in Trenton, SC. I had a recent security breech and lost my best Dominique hen to a possum. Also my second clutch of ducklings (Ancona) are growing like weeds.

I need some Dom hatching eggs and want to get started in Dorkings. Anyone know where I can get some hatching eggs?
