South Carolina

How was the farm tour?

It was pretty cool - a lot of driving from Greenville! A little dicey yesterday when we were smack in the middle of that storm/tornado warning in Williamston. Got an emergency text from the NWS that said to seek shelter immediately as soon as we left one farm. All in all, it was pretty interesting. Learned some cool stuff and surprised how low tech some of the CSA operations were. I figured it would be more elaborate to provide a basket of produce for a 100 or so people weekly. $25 well spent, even though we were soaked to the bone for a good part of yesterday.

Though you could have done without the bad weather it does sound very interesting. I would like to do one of the farm tours in the future.

I hope everyone in SC is okay, especially in Anderson County where there was a tornado. Too scary for me. I know we have had our share of threats where we are. It has not been long since one touched down close to here. Those poor people in around OK City. I guess it is like living on the east coast with all of the hurricanes. But I feel more prepared and you at least get a little more notice before it hits.

I live on the south east side of town. Wasn't too bad here. Just very heavy rain. I don't mind the rain, the wind worries me because of all the BIG trees we have. Limbs are falling all the time.

Makes me miss the pine trees back home - about the only thing I miss about Fayetteville. Bad storm meant the tops of a few pine trees snapped off. Here or at the coast, whole trees up root and fall over in heavy rain and wind. Scary stuff!

Yes it is. It's actually worse after a rain. Once the sun comes out and the humidity goes up the dead wood swells. That's when they start snapping off.

We do have a wooded area but it is on the far side of our property. We have experienced some severe winds this past couple of months but if trees fall it cannot harm any structures. The humidity can be unbearable but common here and from where we came in the Mid-Atlantic.

I won't get to go to the poultry swap this weekend so please tell me all about it and post some pics if you can (pretty please) - this Farm Tour that I see in the thread -- i went to the link but couldn't click on anything on the site to find out more info - - do they do this only once a year? This sounds like something I would love to do as well.

Thanks my SC Friends....have a wondeful Wednesday !

This Sat. will not be near as big as Chickenstock usually is but hopefully the weather will agree with us and we can have a decent turn out.
I posted flyers in local feed stores so maybe the word will get out a bit better. Brings chairs and appetites since there is a meat tasting!

I am excited to see my chicken buddies again and am trying to get as much together to sell as possible. I already have some pre-sales.
