Hey y'all!

I'm new to chickens. Like really new, never been around a chicken before in my life, until my family went to the Biltmore house and I got to pet one! Then I got hooked!! I started researching, reading, and exploring the options of chickens. Long story, I'm going to get my tractor on Sunday!!

Now I need chickens. I would really like to have about 5 or 6 buff orpington hens, already out of the "chick" stage, as I don't know if I have the knowledge yet to care for chicks.

I have looked into ordering them from people in other states but the shipping is killing my budget (I'm an CPA, btw) because I only want a few.

Does anybody have some I can buy locally, or does anybody want to go in to order some so the shipping isn't so high??

Someone else suggested I go to the flea markets, but I really would rather avoid that. Crowds make me anxious!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Never ever go to a flee market unless you now a person there. You will have the most bad experience of your life if you do. Trust me. Find somebody that has the ones you want locally. You might have to drive an hour or so but you will get good healthy birds.

And by the way.

Welcome!!! And i wouldn't go to the flea markets either. Check craigslist for folks nearby that you can see the enviroment they have been in. Good luck finding your babies and keep in mind chickens are worse than chips! You can't have just one!!! Lol

I suggest Gary and Tara Bott over in Inman on Hwy 292. Their farm is called Seventh Heaven and Gary may have a few for sale. He sure had lots of them out walking around when we were over there last week. They have a page on FB.

I've heard bad things about auctions too. I agree 100% that you want to see how they're being cared for before you bring them home, unless you go to something like Chickenstock where odds are you'll see pictures and read about your future additions long before you pick them up. :D

Are you the same one that just posted on SC Chicken/duck owners? I had suggested Amy (Westknoll Amy) but it sounds like she doesn't have any. Try the Botts.
