Can anyone within 50 or 60 miles of the Francis Marion National Forest spare a really big hen? I raise Dark Brahmas, and the hen of one pair was killed by a snake a couple of days ago. I tried to pair Sir Nigel, her mate, up with another hen, but she isn't having him, and the boss rooster is furious and ready to chase Sir Nigel off the property. Sir Nigel is messed up; he follows me everywhere, talking constantly, and he offers to attack everyone else, even my husband and our dogs. I am afraid he will die of a broken heart or hurt one of the dogs. (He weighs over 12 pounds, which is more than the smaller dog.)

I can't take a hen with mites, lice etc., as we have none now and she'd have to be quarantined for a very long time (causing Sir Nigel to have to be locked up with her.) I prefer, of course, a Dark Brahma hen, but if necessary a Buff or Light Brahma would work, as would a Jersey Giant. Any other hen would be squished when he tries to breed with her. If you can sell me one, I will gladly come and get her. She will be vet checked and quarantined for a little while. She will be treated extremely well, kept absolutely safe at night, and let out during the day on a farm with no neighbors, but lots of attention and other animals. However, we have not caught the snake yet that killed Neena. We will buy a trap and keep trying, but right now there is a certain amount of danger to all of the chickens.
