Should have no problems at 50%-60%........
what are you hatching?

Silkies, Marans, Game/Mix, and some muts. My FnLaw gave me some eggs to hatch for him, And I only have silkies.

60% is great then

Seems my silkies like it a little higher than other breeds - 55-60%
Other breeds do well at 50%.

It will rise as they hatch, you don't want it so high that once the chick pierces that inner membrane that moisture buildup in the air cell causes them to drown.
Humidity will condense on the inside of the shell at the air pocket just like it will on the windows of the bator.

If you have moisture on the windows of the bator then it is too high, too.

What a lovely weekend! Well except for the marble sized hail-thankfully my gardens are fine.
Anyone in search of roos? We have at least 3 so far. . .They are all one breed (what, I don't know yet) I also have one hen in that breed. Maybe I will have time for pictures this week . . . .the days are not long enough!!

As for our gardens-we have maturing potatoes A variety of lettuce that is finally growing, carrots, onions, spinach, broccoli and cauliflower and wild strawberry that I keep weeding out:rolleyes: That is my cooler weather garden (it will get shade as the trees fill out)

I also have tomatoes and horseradish in containers

The corn is sprouting and the garlic in that plot I've also planted peas and beans. Then I have new strips of potatoes, peas, corn and onions. Also just started our melons and squash and herbs. We also have companion flowers throughout.

I almost forgot the kids garden has lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, sunflowers, marigolds and onions.

We have so many onions to deter pests.

Hey everyone. It has been a while since I have been on. Just got bact from the Outer Banks with 150 8th graders. What a trip. It was wonderful until we got back. Came home to a huge storm that produced golfball sized hail. (work in NC). Not only was the weather horrible to unload all those children in, but when I got back to my car, it is totaly messed up. I have dents all on my hood, roof, drivers side, and trunk. Not to mention the 1 inch crack from a large hail stone in my hood. Called the insurance company and now the fun begins. But at least my chickens are safe. Not much problems at home. Oh well. Glad everyone is doing good. have a great week.

I have neglected BYC! We've been at the farm since Wednesday and don't have internet. I can use my Blackberry to dial up but I'm usually out having fun! My veggie garden has broccoli, brussel sprouts, herbs. I just planted tomatoes, cucumber, cantaloupe, peppers. I have 14 raised beds in a fenced off garden. We spent the weekend adding 7 fruit trees to our orchard, put in a bunch of blueberries and raspberries, and my husband is getting started with grapes. We are also adding to our flower beds. It was a lovely weekend but very hot and humid! All the storms missed us on Saturday.

Someone at church today asked me how many chickens we have now. I just looked at her and my husband looked at me. Sadly, I'm not sure. 250? All those babies add up! On a positive note, my husband has agreed to let me have 4 new chicken coops. I'm shocked but not complaining!

Looks like a hot day tomorrow and then much more comfortable temps the rest of the week. I'm not ready for summer yet!

It was hot out there today! I really wanted to get this project done but at least it's closer! I'm thankful my DH spent the day helping me. I've even got him talked into converting a storage building into another coop. He said if I don't stop I'm going to turn into a chicken...
