Yes, Yancy is coming today to pick up more babies! He will have as many as me if he isn't careful!
They are too precious to resist.
I have a few others coming today, as well. A family from Columbia is driving up for a nice bunch of chicks to start their own backyard flock. Others are locals just wanting to add to their yards for the cute effect. And probably some eggs, too!
I got in a big order from Stromberg's and I can say their chicks came in bouncy and happy. Three buff Brahmas were dead but they had added extras. I am always so shocked though to open a box and find dead chicks. I lose them in my brooders on occasion and feel just as bad.
But these chicks are in much better shape than when I got the order from Meyer's the other week. Those chicks came in weak and scrawny. It has taken me a few weeks to get them up to par. They are better but not nearly as fat and sassy as the Stromberg's chicks. Guess I found my new favorite hatchery. (Geez! Why the heck do I need a hatchery???
)
Welcome new members! I have been lax in my welcoming lately.
With pollen counts high , the heat and lots of decent weather for working....I am wore out. Too much to do and not enough daylight or energy.
I always seem to make it about me, don't you know!
I had 2 cute little Cayuga ducklings to hatch yesterday. The 3rd egg did nothing. I am really surprised I got any to hatch so I am happy with 2 little beasties. They are in with a few chicks right now and the chicks aren't very happy about those big feet. Someone wants to buy them but I am not sure yet if they are even for sale. They sure are cute and the eggs sure were black. The Cayugas I have now do not lay nice black eggs. One lays a gray egg and the other 2 must lay white eggs because I have never found but one gray one a day.
Well, break over. Got to get back to work. This place doesn't mess itself up, you know!
