My guineas always take the full 28 days before pipping. But silkies are great brooders, I'm sure they'll do great. Fire ants do hurt terribly. I've been stung on 2 occasions and the pain stays with you for weeks. I'm thankful that we don't have them in our yard. They scare me, they're very aggressive.

Awwww....I love those polish chicks!!

Ok, I love all chicks but the polish just make me smile. I would call that white-crested white. And from the pics it looks like a pullet, but don't hold me to that. I usually have to look down at the tops of their heads to see. Hens have wider, more uniform feathers and a neat crest while roos have narrower feathers and messier crests. It looks pretty neat and round from the pics. Very cute chicks.

So me and my son were in TSC last week and of course had to look at the chicks. They had "assorted bantams" and they had some colors that we don't have (imagine that)! Anyway, we bought 6 chicks. One little feather footed chick was buff with a yellow head, well she's a frizzle! Her feathers curled overnight and she's turned from plain Jane into a frizzled beauty. I'm so surprised.

Call ducks are the hardest birds to hatch for me. VERY difficult. Mine have such tiny little beaks, I helped them out of the shell or I don't think they would have made it. Congrats on the one!

When I saw that those had pipped membrane and not shell, I think next time that is what I will do when I hear peeping. This one made it out by itself almost all the way.......then during a rest, the shell stuck to its butt

Had to take that off because it was yelling

I will figure out how to make them hatch easier. I know they are hard to hatch, but that just makes me want a few more LOL I like a challenge.

I am deathly allergic to them.

I grabbed some guinea eggs on a swap ....DH is gonna kill me.

We always have fire ants. To the point that when the hills start showing up, I cannot go outside. Well I did because I had to treat the mounds, but had to have the epi-pen on me. This year, I have not seen a single hill at all.

I am enjoying my time outside too!

Sometimes we don't have any until it rains, then they pop up overnight. We still have a huge dirt spot near the deck where a huge hill was last year.

The only thing I have found that will spot kill them is by ortho & in a black container. I spray around the house & basement with something else I cannot remember the name of, I think also by ortho so have never had them in the house thank goodness, but a neighbor up the road did last year.

I am actually going outside BAREFOOT this spring!

We have had some fire ants this year but not tons. I'm not even sure how I got bit. It got in my shoe.

I'll be looking for my guineas to hatch sometime next week. I have three silkies fighting over the two nest boxes they are in. They are such a mess!

Those bantams are my weakness. No telling what I have. One set of pics is thought to be OEG barred or crele. Other little ones that I have no pics of are darkish with chipmunk stripes

Brown with chipmunk stripes could be silver duckwings. Watch for them to lighten up to a silver gray color.
