It was nuts over by Furman. Weird ripply looking clouds and I swear I saw one drop down as a funnel cloud but DH says I exaggerate. Whatever. As the sky turned black, I had seperated out my Light Brahams to a dog pen in the basement (not lookin good) and put Broody Bonita (olive egger) in the broody cat carrier with 6 frizzle eggs from Amy. And the rest of the flock just staring at me like I have an issue. Right. So it monsoons and hails on my BRAND NEW CAR, but no damage thank God. Just a bunch of trees down and the power out for an hour or so. But yeah it was looking bad there for a while!!!!

Did anyone else get that rain last night? We live near Savannah--just across the river-- and I was up at midnight in the pouring down rain checking on my chicks and chickens. A river had formed running down the drive and through the yard and through my Silkie pen. I am so glad I got up to check as I do not think all would have made it. We so needed the rain though....

I have moved the location of their pen before I put them back out this morning!

Wow, even we got an awesome storm last night! We really needed it badly. I have only been watering the garden and all my other plants were pretty much on the way out until last night. Got up this morning to check on chickens and wow- all the plants are standing up, leaves out- I forgot how pretty they could be!

Even the hydrangeas , that had their heads on the ground, have picked back up and look nice again. The power blinked off and on for a while, but by this morning it was all back working, only had to reset the clock on the stove.

The chickens seemed kinda quiet this morning, but everyone is fine. Come to think of it, I think this was the first thunderstorm any of them have ever seen in their short life times. I was a bit worried as due to the heat, I had left the windows and door open on the coop with just the screens in place, but everything looks like it stayed dry so that is great.

All my morning feeding and watering chores are done, so need to get started on the house cleaning chores and take the teenager to the library. Maybe I can find some books on chickens

OMG, yes! That storm was awful! We got hail here pretty hard.

The Crepe Myrtle beside my deck had the top broke out of it. Thank goodness it didn't bust the kitchen windows!
I lost a roo in the storm.

A bantam Cochin about 5 months old that free ranges. He was laying out in the barnyard when I went back down to close up for the night so I wonder if he tried to make a dash for the barn and the hail got him. I can't imagine anything else like a lightening strike. I got up to the house from the barn seconds before the bottom fell out and he wasn't there then so I feel it was hail since some was golf ball size.

Some of my PVC roofing material was picked up off the ground and thrown into the back pasture but yet the plywood I laid on top of my new duck coop to measure to finish the roof was still there and it was pretty dry inside of it, too! Just odd how some things get messed up and others so near by do not.

This is what I have done on the duck coop for now. Still have the door and roof to finish but at least I am this far along and then I will get to work on the other one.

I'm just across the river in Augusta....we got it pretty bad. Lost power about 9:15 last night...it came back on around 6:30 this morning.

Damage that was done.....2 coops were collapsed....our "old" brooder (just moved chicks to new brooder 2 days ago) was flipped over. And that thing was HEAVY! There were reports of 67 mile per hour winds and 76,000 people in the area without power! Main things were trees down, limbs everywhere, power lines down, our yards are all messed up and have stuff that has blown everywhere! But everyone is OK!

We ended up leaving and driving up to a more open area...we have tons of trees around our house that it really worried us!

We didn't loose any chickens to the storm except for 3 chicks in the outdoor brooder that got too cold...I think the incubators are ok (we covered them with blankets immediately), and the chicks that were hatching in the hatcher all survived.

We did loose one roo last night though not to the storm!!! We had a fox grab him up...

Needless to say.....this sucks! Hubby and father in law are going to be repairing catches today...and we are supposed to be leaving tomorrow morning to head to the lake for the weekend!!!

I heard this morning on the news that we are getting a milder storm tonight. I am going to have everyone put up for this one so I do not even have to worry!

I now know that Silkies can not swim but they can do a good job of treading water for short periods if they have too!

That storm was awful! I'm so sorry for any of you who had damage or lost chickes

I'd been watching the radar for a while before it hit, but it still snuck up on me! I was waiting to put our big animals up ( 2 mini donkeys and a horse) until right before it...but ended up having to do it in the middle of it all. It had all the animals really freaked out. I'm thankful for the rain ( & so is my garden) but I could do without all the wind, hail, and lightening!
