It has been a while since I've seen the crow around here. Down the road the pulp wood people are making lots of noise while cutting trees down, maybe it's scaring them away.

I tried the CD thing last year. Yeah no, not so much. Hawks are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. If your birds aren't under lock and key, it's basically like a convienence store in the backyard. "Hmmm, do I want a Snickers today or just a nice Slushy?".

Watch what chases hawks: mockingbirds and crows. Let's plan to hatch out some of those bad boys and figure out a way to keep them around!!!!

Blue jays will run the hawks off pretty good, too. We had a hawk land in the oak tree in our front yard and you should have heard the ruckus the jays put up. Six or seven of them kept dive bombing the hawk until it finally flew off. Unfortunately, it flew right up the street where it decided to catch a young homing pigeon in mid-air. That sight, I would have been happy to miss!

I wonder if I keep out a big thing of black sunflower seeds if it would attract and keep the crows back here? not sure what attracts mocking birds. we do have them but I need them back here at my house not the pasture.. shew.. all the effort and time spent on keeping one wild bird away..

I need to send you some of my girls. Now granted, I do not have a hawk problem or anything, but they sure do a number or robins in my yard. Let one of them little boogers land and they turn into hawks. They will run across the yard at a full run just to get the robin, or any other bird for that matter. It is funny to see them come from all angles to get it. Plus the face that they are chunky, it talkes them a while to stop so they end up running into each other and knocking themselves down. The get up, shake, look at each other as if to say "I had this one" then go on about what they were doing. Kinda have to chuckle when they do it.

I found this forum about two weeks ago. I found this part of it a few days ago. There are quite a few people from the upstate on here. I think you will see them more in the evenings than on the weekends. I've been surprised at how many in the area have at least a small flock of chickens. I keep hearing a rooster near me, and since I know my neighbor know longer has hers, I'm trying to figure out where he is living. I like hearing him when I'm outside.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I have 4 BR roos about 2 months old that need a good home. 3 have straight combs, and 1 has what appears to be a rose comb. Don't know why, but oh well. I also have 2 EE roos also about 2 months old that need a good home as well. 1 has his saddle feathers, but no tail feathers. (they never grew) So if anyone is interested, please pm me so we can talk. Hope all the dads out there had a great day. I know I did. Just spent the day working on the new coop. Have a great week.

Bill

Hey South Carolina chicken peeps! Popping in to let everyone know that I am tossing around the thought of having a Carolina Chickenstock here in North Carolina. I know that you are already having a meet up in the Columbia area but this would be open to both North and South Carolinians in the Lincolnton area northwest of Charlotte. If anyone would be interested just let me know, wanting to see what type of interest/response we have before putting one together. It would be late Aug. mid Sept.
