how far away are you from the upstate? Im not sure how far you are or how far Red bug is... I think shes way one down past charelston? not sure..

trying to figure out how to get birds from individuals instead of from hatcheries.. trying to figure out which is the best way to go.. shipping or driving? but if I drive.. I get to meet everyone person to person.. that's a big plus...

I'm pretty much along the Savannah River. 15 mins south of Edgefield, SC, 15 mins north of Augusta, GA, 45 mins west of Columbia, 1 hour south/SW of Greenwood, SC. That should give you a good idea where I am. LOL Red Bug is about 2-2.5 hours straight south of me. Jasper County is closer to like Ridgeland, SC and Savannah, GA. I think whether you go to hatcheries or breeders depends on how much you are willing to spend, the quality of birds you want and what breeds you are looking to get. If buying from breeders I think it's best to meet them or go to their place (if allowed). Obviously if you buy from hatchery they will be shipped. In this heat, shipping would be brutal on the chicks so you would have to buy some vitamins/electrolytes if offered. That's just my 2 cents worth....

I appreciate your change.. hahah 2 cents worth..) anyway.. i know where Edgefield is we used to drive through it to go to the children's hospital in Augusta.. ( my nephew is a heart baby.. or was, he's a teenager now.. yeahhh.. )

I know I want more EE's I really like their hardiness.. I really like my dark Brahmas, and barred rocks. I would like to get LF Cochin pullets for my roo. I am drwn to the LF standard breeds.. not so much the bantems... I would like something fun. I was thinking of Polish ( I had one from Amy and he was so cute and fun but we had a terrible storm and he was washed away and drown in the flash flood of my back yard. ) I also like the showgirls..9 I think their bantams? I was thinking the polish also lay white eggs. and I only have one leghorn and I would like a couple more wht. layers.

I cant get too big because I have no support from my family. so I have to stay low enough to be able to maintain and keep them happy and healthy on my own.

i really want to go to some shows and see what all is out there that I don't know about or that might catch my fancy but I cant find any upcoming shows. the uperstate fair used to have a chicken show so did Anderson and the state fair but I cant find any information on any oft hem showing they are going to have chicken show this year.. do you know of any? where else can i go in person to learn..l Amy Nadine has been such a big help and I love going out to her place to see all the pretties and everyone running around in controlled chaos.. I like going and talking and seeing everything at the same time.. one day Ill have enough education in the chicken world to be able to help out newbies like Amy has.. hahah.. I have a good ways to go... but I could never have as many as she has.. whew... that's a lot of birds..

thanks for your advice.

HI , I am in Cross Hill which is Laurens county down on Lake Greenwood...I see a few Laurens people here! I am slowly expanding my chicken habit which started this past April! I am interested in different breeds and will be looking for some BLRW hens real soon if anyone has some youngsters and needs to thin out. I currently have 2 RI red hens...2 BLRW Roo's that were suppose to be hens( both breeds about 17 weeks) ...a young adult pair of Blue self bantams...and 2 silkies(sex to be determined about 9 weeks old). One of my BLRW roo's will prob need a new home soon if anyone is interested too!I fought my husband for 16 years to get chickens and now he is too funny showing off pics of the bantam roo I snuck home!lol

I will not be making it to swap. DH says we are doing something else this weekend--but he has yet to say what it is. Just not going to a chicken swap is my guess. I am selling the blue probably at a good/fair price but I admit the buffs are still priced on the high end. All have very nice lacing but the buff hens are exceptional girls.

Sounds interesting...I really need to get the new run finished but will try and make it...may even bring my one roo to see if I can find him a home! That will make room for more and get my husband to come since he does not like the BLRW's for some reason! And I wouldnt be surprised if I knew your B-n-law...its a small town!

How often are the chicken swaps? I can't make this one, too much going on here at home right now. But, it is a tough one to not just say I'll go anyways. So close
