Well, I found the guinea nest the keet came from this morning. There were two guineas setting on it but both had gotten up to walk around with 3 keets. The fire ants had beat me to the nest and 3 unhatched keets were already providing them lunch. I really hate fire ants!

I did find one still alive in an egg and he is in the brooder with the one I found this morning`~ Of course I took him out of the egg first and he is doing well. I will probably catch the other 3 keets this evening and put them in the brooder too. And I thought I was about done with keets this year!

its about 30 min. from bamburg

Ok - 30 minutes which way? My husband would be coming from Columbia down, would it possibly be on the way? He will be on the clock with his job so I can't ask him to drive too far out of the way. But if it's on the way back home it might work.

go on past bamburg on hwy 601 doing south west

Ok quick question... Well the egg that had a little hole in it is gone... I mean nothing! Altogether over a week or soon 4 eggs went missing! Two where spoiled and didn't mind those leaving. I'm pretty sure it's a snake. It's the only thing that could get in the coop! I have looked everywhere for it. I cannot find it. Do snakes hunt mostly at night and is there anything I can use to put around the coop to keep them away???? Down to 6 possible hatching eggs now! No wait 5 one is clear!! Help!!!

The same thing happened to me. Snake got all but one egg and it didn't hatch.

I got lucky though and it was on one of the rafters of the roof when I went down there..so he met the end of our shovel. The snake that got my eggs came during the day. I'd try to close up any spaces the snake could get in. I used that expanding foam stuff to fill in gaps. They sell snake deterant but I didn't want to put anything around the coop that may be harmful to the chickens if they ate it (mine free range sometimes). Keeping my fingers crossed for you that no more eggs disappear!

Well the Queen of Keets had a sad finding in the Guinea pen this morning. No, the keet are fine and actually still with their moms--one guinea hen is so mean I decided she could keep them.

No, I found one of my French pearl hens dead in the pen. I have had these guys for some time and they are my oldest guineas. She had gotten the soft underside of her beak caught on a small piece of branch on the roost and had hung there for who knows how long. The stob was not much more than a 1/2 inch long but these birds are very heavy and she could not struggle free. It was just long enough to catch and hold her under her beak. I feel so horrible about this. I had trimmed all those things down because guineas get bumble foot so bad from flying up and catching their feet on them and she found the longest one there. I have now cut it off to nothing but a little too late.

Stupid novice guinea keet question: if one of broodies is hatching them out, will they stay with her or be little s%^ts and run away when they get a week or 2 old? Should I just scoop them up and put them in a brooder when they hatch? Or am I being an ignorant guinea owner?
