I'm glad you had the chance to spoil her, she had a great home for the short time she was here.

My peafowl are in a large, covered yard for their own protection. Peafowl are not hard to keep, they eat the same thing my chickens eat - layer pellets. They roost in trees, but I put a box up in the tallest spot for them and they do use it in bad weather. They will not go up at night like chickens, so if you let them out they will most likely roost in the tallest spot available. This could be on top of your house. They can fly very well. They are preyed on by owls at night as they don't necessarily seek cover. In my experience they are very calm, friendly, curious birds. I love to hear them call but some people think they are loud (imagine that). They're not very vocal, usually late in the evening they will call to each other while going up to roost. I would just about die to have a pair of white peafowl.

Where are they? I'm going to have to brainstorm a way to go get them. I'm having heart palpitations just thinking about missing that opportunity.

Okay - are these peafowl anywhere close to Bamberg?????? My husband is going back there very soon. Still brainstorming......

I put my sultan in the coop yesterday. I know...I fail at quarantine. But I felt bad because she was all alone! Now she's screaming bloody murder (she has no backbone I discovered) and runs if the othersso much as look at her weird. She prefers to sit in my arms and eat food out my hands. Spoiled! Absolutely spoiled!

Hi everyone. It has been a while since I have been on and had/have a lot of catching up to do.

First of all Moonchild, I am so sorry to hear about Pum Pum. I hate that for you.

I also am sorry I missed the swap last Saturday. From the pics, it looks like you guys had fun.

My excuse, I was in Charleston for the week and was having a blast. It was the first and only
th.gif
trip we will be able to take this summer before school starts. I only have a week left and then back to the grindstone. Getting lesson plans ready, meeting the kids, ect... you know teacher stuff.

Well enough about that. Here is why I am writing. I was gone from last Wednesday until late last night. My neighbor watched, fed watered, collected the eggs, and jut watched over the place for us. He said everything went fine except that he left my water hose running for a day. He said that it looked like a water pipe busted or something and had the water company come cut or water off. Then he thought about the hose and sure enough that was what it was. He had the water turned back on, and even offered to help pay the bill. He is a great neighbor.

He said that he got enough eggs that he will not have top buy any for a while... a long while. Well yea, I was getting about 12-14 edds a day. But here is the problem. This morning when I went to let the girls out, and collect the first round of eggs, there are NONE!!!!

What's up with that? Silly question, but why do you think there are no eggs? At first I thought snake possibly, but I can't imagine a snake eating that many eggs at one time. I looked around the coop for one but nothing. And it is secured like fort knox so i know nothiung got in there, plus all the chickens are fine. I know they take a break once or twice a week, but all of them at one time??? I just don't understand why there are no eggs. It is not hot yet so I know it's nit the heat. I am just baffeled at this. What do you guys think?

OMG! I am so glad I did not go now or I would have come home with peacocks and very broke because I know they were not cheap! Or should I say....cheep!
And some chickens would have got tossed out to the wilds for me to make room for peacocks!

Catching up with the thread, bear with me everyone!
